Monday Question- Which Perfume Would You Want To Buy Right Now?

If you were dropped into an exceedingly well stocked perfume store with the grant by a good fairy to get one perfume of your choice, which one would it be?

Something new and exciting?

Something tried and tested?

Would you buy something long coveted and longed for?

Or would you listen to your mood right now and go with your impulse?

Which perfume would you go home with at this moment?

My Answer:

I’m feeling impulsive today, so I think I would go with my mood of the moment and pick something I love right now, no matter what’s ony wishlist.

Since I just got home from our first Italy trip, I’m in a summer- sun-heat-tropical mood, so it would be a toss between Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum and Annick Goutal Songes. If  a good fairy is paying though, I’d go for the latter. 😉

What about you?

  1. Ha! The coincidence☺It was my bday on Friday so I was in the exact dilemma you’re describing here and I went the impulsive route too. I bought a small flacon of Musc Ravageur, something that wasn’t on my wishlist, wasn’t tried and tested and so on. I love it!

  2. Vanessa says:

Bronze Goddess! I am cheap, me. 😉 Though I wouldn’t throw a bottle of Songes out of bed either. To be honest, at this stage I prefer large decants at most.

  3. Lady Jane Grey says:

Khol de Bahrain by Stephan Humbert Lucas.
Or if I’d be brave enough for unsniffed : Salome by Liz Moores (Papillon Perfumery)

  4. Sandra says:

If money were not an issue Nabucco Amatys – big bottle- and Neela Vermeire Pichola. Alas, this is a dream.

  5. Hamamelis says:

I am in an iris testing phase, after having received a lovely package of different iris samples by a German Perfumista. So far I would be hard tossed between a big bottle of Chanel La Pausa, or Iris Silver Mist. I loved Dzonghka, but I could pay for that myself…
Birgit if you are craving Songes and you don’t have a bottle, I am happy to send you some in a Travalo or 5 ml sample (I don’t have 10ml sprays). I sometimes see it offered in on line Dutch perfumeries affordable here (65 euros old bottle, 50 ml). Happy to enable if need be.
Hope your Italy trip helped with your muse, and your injury!

    • Olfactoria says:

Iris is my favorite note. Enjoy your journey though the samples.
So kind of you to offer, no need though, I’ll make my sample last as long as possible.

  6. the husband says:

How many patients would that fairy have to see to buy it?

  7. Alice says:

On impulse I spritzed a sample of Philosoykos yesterday – it was lovely! A perfume I’ve always ignored, maybe because it seemed to be everywhere for a while. But I’m going through an anti-niche/super expensive phase, and trying to focus on more affordable brands, and things that I would really wear (both in terms of pruning my collection, and for new items). And as the good fairy is brandishing her credit card, I’ll take a large bottle, the travel set, the lotions, shower gel, several candles….. I’m picturing a hamper filled to the brim with Philosykos products, and topped off with a box of juicy fresh figs.

  8. Sabine says:

I will go for what the mood dictates, because there isn’t really anything on my wish list. But knowing that I could buy whatever I wanted is a delicious idea.

    • snobbycactus says:

“To go away with”, for me it is Misia from Chanel. Turned out to be unexpectedly captivating perfume when I tried it, even if its decription was predicting the opposite effect. Just can’t wait when I will be next time in Düsseldorf or Paris to grab it.
Another dream is Nabucco’s line. But for this I would indeed need the grant by a good fairy….

  9. annemariec says:

I’m a bit like Vanessa – do I really need a FB of anything? Maybe one of those sample sets from one of the decant services. I’d go for leather. I could test them all thoroughly, the rough, the smooth, classic, modern, and everything I between. 🙂

  10. I would to get hands on Our Elixir Precieux by Dior. It is not pure oud I believe.
However it has nice smoky, tobacco-y smell that is long lasting. The only reason I haven’t bought is that it costs 200 pounds for 3ml. Ouch! The little goes a long way though.

  11. rosestrang says:

Songes is lovely, it feels tropical but in a totally unique way, hope you find a bottle soon!

I’ve long coveted a bottle of vintage Bois des Illes in parfum, I’ll get around to buying a small decant at some stage but I’d love an original bottle! Failing that vintage Chanel 19 parfum. I have a tiny bottle but it’s not vintage and I remember it used to smell lovlier in drydown.
If they didn’t have vintages, then I’d like samples of every perfume described as ‘Turkish Delight rose’. I’ve tried quite a few and none are what I’m looking for – a sort of dark, transparent Turkish Delight but with no heavy patchouli or oud. When a perfume says ‘loukoum’ it usually smells of almonds, but it’s the perfect rose I’m looking for!

    • Olfactoria says:

Have you tried L’Artisan’s Traversée du Bosphore? I like that turkish rose note a lot, and it is not heavy at all.

Hope you find a perfect vintage Chanel extrait one day!

  12. Lila says:

If I decided to be impulsive then I’d go with either MFK’s Satin Mood (I don’t have anything like it) or AG’s L’Heure Exquise even though I already have something similar (No. 19 Poudre). Amouage is permanently on my wish list – just about anyone of them will do! Maybe today I’d go for Satin Mood.

  13. Kandice says:

I would love a bottle of Grandiflora’s Magnolia Michel. It’s way out of my budget though not that expensive all things considered. I seem to be on a Magnolia kick since my runner up (if the perfume fairy was being overly generous) would be FM’s Eau De Magnolia. I’ve tried both and loved them.

  14. Heya Birgit,
So obvious I know but CHANEL Misia or Fève Délicieuse by Christian Dior.
I did just do a plunge this week on three longtime To Buy list frags that I’ve been through more than one decant of: Mona di Orio – Eau Absolue, The Different Company – Tokyo Bloom and one I have gone through 4 x 5ml decants 24.9.11 by Hilde Soliani. It was time for these to join the collection in FB.
    Portia xx

  15. Annette says:

I’m thinking a nice Serge Lutens such as vitriol d’oeillet or chergui … my own perfume fairy has promised me a bottle very soon!!!

  16. cookie queen says:

Hi B! . There is nothing I want right now. Kind of sad really – I love the anticipation and thrill of going in for the kill. Happens all too rarely. I would like a bottle of an older version Of Cristalle. That would be great.

  17. Julee says:

I would go for IUNX l’Ether, the large size. Love Olivia Giacobetti.
Also very curious to try The Beautiful Mind serie from Geza Schoen.

  18. SallyM says:

I have long wished a good fairy to fly in with a bottle of vintage Guerlain Liu in the black and gold art deco bottle with box. I was at the Portland Antiques & Collectibles show this weekend and a woman had a fabulous collection of vintage perfumes, especially some by Coty in really early bottles. The most gorgeous was a 10″ tall Baccarat bottle that was sealed and full of Muguet – way out of my price range though. I did much sighing and internal sobbing 😉

  19. Songe is nice, I’m enjoying my decant. The top of my list is Puresidtance WHITE. 🙂 Though I’ve just tried Dark Amber & Ginger Lily and Tuberose Angelica at the Jo Malone store last week, I wouldn’t mind having some decants of them. I don’t really need 100ml bottles, if they had in smaller bottles, I would have bought them. 😉

  20. johanob2014 says:

Well unexpectedly I came across a shop that sells tester bottles for really good prices! So today I bought Dior Homme Parfum for a RIDICULOUSLY good price. It’s been on my wishlist forever,so glad I found it at a FANTASTIC price! There were all these wonderful other perfumes ranging from Tom Ford White Patchouli,Terry de Gunzburg,Sisley…a whole smorgasbord of delights! It was hard to choose!Stick to the budget….Stick.To.The.Budget.Lol.Happy Week B and everyone!xo

  21. Hayley says:

I was very impulsive and have just bought Ninfeo Mio by Annick Goutal despite having Philosykos on my wish list. I had a spray of this on holiday in Edinburgh and fell in love with its beautiful lemony fig scent, so mood enhancing. If money was no object I would buy a big bottle of En Passant that has been on my wish list since I first started my perfume hobby (obsession).

  22. anitathepianist says:

Mona Di Orio’s Musc is at the top of my Wish List, but it is SO expensive.. I’m just about to need new bottles of L’Eau de Merveilles and L’Eau de Merveilles Amber.

  23. rickyrebarco says:

Victoria Minus Hedonist Rose for sure. Love her scents. I own Hedonist Iris and I love the rose also

  24. Ines says:

I think I’d go with Roma Imperiale – that’s what I tried recently and loved. 🙂

  25. I have Amouage Ubar on my radar atm, so I’d probably get that!
    xx, Annie | Annie’s Beauty

  26. PS Songe is gorgeous! I have it in shimmering body oil form! Just got it from their website! Love it! It’s at a close tie with my TF Shimmering Body Oil! 😉
Have a great week! xx, Annie | Annie’s Beauty

  27. I would love to try L’Heure Blue. I adore old time fragrances, I have never smelled this one but I’d be pretty surprised if I did not love it! Are thee naturals in the store? My second would be anything by Strange Invisible Perfumes.

  28. Pam says:

    Vintage Tabac Blond

  29. Figuier says:

Oooh I love Songes. I have FBS of both the edt and the edp and they’re both gorgeous, especially at this time of the year. Though after not liking the ‘new’ Terracotta last summer, I smelled it recently and thought it was fantastic – so I’d endorse either option 🙂

Unlike everyone else, I actually really like the idea of a dream FB purchase. I’d love a bottle of Eau de Magnolia; or Ninfeo Mio; or maybe The pour un Ete; or L’eau de Tarocco… So basically, anything bright and summery! But I’m on my summer holidays come Friday, and will be bringing either Eau de Narcisse Bleu or Bigarade Concentree with me as a ‘signature’ for the trip…so I’m not exactly bereft of options 😉

    • Olfactoria says:

Figuier, how do the EdP and EdT differ in your opinion and which one would you choose if you had to pick?

Have a great holiday, you’ll definitely smell great.

  30. Figuier says:

Birgit, the difference is more/less what you’d expect. I think I’d go with the edt if I had to choose.

The edp is more ‘narcotic’, richer in jasmine (which at times veers close to the opening of Nuda, for instance) and with a stronger vanillic dry-down. It’s a great ‘seductive’ perfume for hot summer nights, but to be honest I never spray, only dab, as otherwise it’s just too much. The edt is probably my favourite – it’s not sheer or unobtrusive by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s certainly airier, and if you spray lightly & low on the body it produces a lovely, relatively discreet sillage. And it has more of the bright beachy vibe – salicylates I guess? – up top.

  31. Figuier says:

Oh, I should add: both the edt and edp are very long lasting, even in small quantities. So 50ml of edt would be plenty! Happy wishlisting 🙂

  32. Connie says:

Jovoy Gardez Moi! A beautiful creamy gardenia that I finished a sample of- wishing for at least 10 mL, but can’t find anyone selling decants. It’s a hard life.

  33. spe says:

It’s surprising me to write this, but there is nothing I want. I’ll donate my choice to one of you!

  34. Star says:

I’m late bc I just discovered your blog and bc its Wednesday! but I love this post! And I would say at this very moment I’m tied between Creed’s Love In White (I’m daydreaming of my future wedding 🙂 ) or Creed’s Sublime Vanille (I need to own a great, strong vanilla scent (1 of my fav perfume scents) and the bottle is just so gorgeous!) 😀
