About

Olfactoria (aka Birgit) is a thirtysomething perfume afficionado living in Vienna, Austria, who stumbled into the world of fragrance and got stuck.

In this blog I hope to convey a little of the joy my love for all things fragrant brings me.

I was awed by thoughtful, intelligent and engaging blogs I found pertaining to scent. I read many of them and found kindred souls who inspire not only my perfume choices, but also provide food for thought. Here I want to offer my own perspective. I review old and new perfumes, write about the ins and outs of my perfume infatuation and maybe I can even help in finding the right fragrance for you. I welcome comments or questions through email anytime!

I view fragrance as art, perfumers as artists. Appreciating art is as much a matter of taste as it is of knowledge. I strive to develop the first and broaden the latter, without forgetting the most important part – having fun along the way!

Olfactoria’s Travels lead me through the world of fragrance, I would love for you to join me…

  2. I just came back to this again, and I wanted to say again I am struck how you really do have a gift for finding the words to perfectly convey what you are talking about. Your readers can tell the important role that fragrances play in your life. It really inspires me!

I just came across your site today and I have seriously through out the day been making my way through your blog. I am so excited to have found this site! I have read quite a few perfume blogs, but yours has me hooked. I think it’s because your tone of voice is personal and inviting. I’ve found that perfume blogs tend to be a bit condescending or cold sometimes. I have a blog where I dabble a bit in perfume as well. My friends all tease me for the perfume obsession, but I have found someone who feels like me! Also, I have had some torrid love affairs with amber scents. 🙂

    xoxo,
    Kassandra

      Hello Kassandra,
it is very nice to meet you.
I’m so glad you found my blog and like what you see. If you are an amber fiend, we are indeed kindred souls. 😉
I look forward to hear from you again. Now I’m off to take a look at your blog!

  5. Hi Birgit,
I have been meaning to write sooner but there are never enough hours in the day as I am sure you yourself know. I always enjoy stopping by and reading about your travels. There is a great deal of info in your posts and that inspires me with my writing. You obviously know a lot about perfume but your posts are always written with a sense of humility, which makes reading what you have to say that much more enjoyable. Take care Clayton

      Hello Clayton,
I know about time never being enough, all the more do I appreciate your lovely comment!

I look forward to hearing your perspective on my posts in the future.
      Best, B

I have been reading breathlessly your blog since I discovered it yesterday. I have been ‘traped’ into the world of perfume since I witness a conference held by Roja Dove a while ago and I am looking for a new fragrance now. It’s not easy I must say. One part of me want to be loyal to one perfume at once but the other part acts like a ‘perfume whore’ who want more, even more, much more!
PS: Thank you for following my blog!

    • Olfactoria says:

      Hello amrimages,

Roja Dove has that effect on people. 🙂
I’m glad you are enjoying my blog. Looking for a new perfume is such an exhilarating experience. Just enjoy the ride, you don’t have to find “The One” right away, might as well have fun with a whole bunch of “maybe”s.
P.S. Your photos are wonderful! I’m glad I found your blog in return.

I too love perfume but after my love affair with India I now only wear one ~ patchouli oil. Smell is everything!
