Monday Question – What Is Your Fondest Fragrant Wish?

Imagine a fairy grants you one wish (that has to do with perfume, I do not think we are all so obsessed that we would spend our one and only wish on perfume if everything else was in the cards as well! 😉 ), what would it be?

What existing or bespoke perfume would you wish for?

What is the fragrance of your dreams?

question-mark

My Answer:

My fondest perfume wish… hmm, that thought sends me on very nice daydream tangents in all kinds of directions.

But what I always land on in the end, if I could wish for something I would otherwise never get, is a series of intense talks with Roja Dove resulting in a perfume that would simply blow my mind and everyone elses who smelt it on me. A bewitching, enticing fragrance that would be ethereally beautiful in its clarity and ultimate simplicity.

That is an impossible dream you say?
Hopefully no dream is.

What is your fondest fragrant wish?

    Dear Birgit may I fantasy?
I would like to talk to Ramon Monegal, and tell him to do another collection, with some other notes, at my taste, lol, and configure what I like the most, eg, one about Oudh with rose, with amber, a tuberose one, a chypre one really strong etc.
Then package but in 100 ml size, the same bottle he uses, but the cap color in different shades: pink, purple, golden…

Have a wonderful day! Love, Silvia

You sure may, Silvia! And what a lovely fantasy it is! 🙂
Th Monegal bottles are so pretty, I can imagine them looking good with differently colored caps too. The exclusive one for Neiman Marcus in the US has a white cap and it looks gorgeous!

This has got to be the toughest Monday Question I’ve ever encountered, Brigit – not to mention a most interesting one too! 🙂
What I’d give to go back in time and get bottles of several overlooked and discontinued perfumes from the 70’s and 80’s (right now, I’m trying to find a way to hide my vintage Givenchy III from my mother!) – but I’ll draw the line when it comes to Giorgio …

  3. Ines says:

My wish is that IFRA retracts all of its regulations about perfume ingredients and lets brands label the boxes with the same warning like on chocolates (and similar).

  4. Jordan River says:

What existing perfume? Well, this one is barely existing and possibly exiting; Iris Gris.

  5. Jordan River says:

And I hope you wish comes true Birgit. Certainly it is within the realms of possibility.

  6. isabeau1977 says:

That would be a bottle of the discontinued Plus Que Jamais by Guerlain. And I would love to look around in the Guerlain Factories.

  7. Lady Jane Grey says:

Either I’d join your talks with R.D – or I’d let Amouage make my bespoke attar with the finest ouds out there 🙂 (… smiling satisfied, because just caught a whiff of Asrar from my wrist…)

  8. Undina says:

I won’t play Mother Theresa and spend my wish on World piece IFRA’s regulations and such, I would be purely selfish: I want a well-preserved (or newly mixed but using all the original ingredients) bottle of my life-long love Climat by Lancome. It doesn’t even have to be free, I would pay a collectors/vintage price but I want to be sure it’s still good.

Great question. My wish is similar to haefennasiel’s: to go back in time.
I love photos of department stores and perfume counters from previous eras. (The Non-Blonde has had a lovely up for the last day or two.) What I dream of is that I can walk into those pictures and sniff the old perfumes: the Guerlains, the Lanvins, the Carons, the Cotys and ESPECIALLY the Diors. All just sitting there. I can’t tell you how often I have longed to do this. Of course I would be able to choose what I want, and bring it back. Dioressence perhaps? No, maybe some little known thing by Lucien Lelong, or something like that.

I had a toy theatre when I was a kid, just a very simple thing, but time and again I used to long to be able to step into it, or around the sides to the back to see what was behind it, and become part of that world.

  10. Alice says:

I’m an erratic perfume buyer, I plan carefully what I need, then often impulsively buy something quite different, entranced by the excitement of the unknown… So, I would like my very clever fairy godmother to pack these ‘missing’ perfumes in a lovely box, and, because she knows what I like, throw in a couple of fabulous surprises, and leave the box on my doorstep on New Year’s eve.

  11. rosanna says:

Oh my god! I wish for old perfumes that not exist anymore… Miss Dior (original) Jil Sander Bath and Body, but I was satisfied with Eau du Soir (Sisley) or Zen (Shiseido). And in my dreams, a true jasmin parfum with oriental notes of saffron, patchouli, amber… oh, if I leave my dreams run free!!! Hehehe

  12. cookie queen says:

To spend an afternoon with Vero Kern. Livin’ the dream!! Bussi. xxx

  13. Safran says:

Lovely question! My fondest wish is something abstract, an airy floriental! I guess, something like this doesn’t exist in the way I think of it. I don’t mean, it has to be light or fluffy or anything. I mean, a floriental with lots of holes in it. ;o) It has to be present, but not sticky, it should flow around me without being overwhelming. And I want it as recognizable as the old Fendi e.g.
Without any oud please, with roses, jasmine, carnation, tuberose and lot’s of spices like cardamom (no cumin please!) cinnamon and pepper, but with a weightless quality. As a perfumer I thought about Jean-Claude Ellena (of course) and I actually wondered, whether he actually made a floriental scent at all yet. From the notes, one could think of Fate, but that’s not what I have in mind. In German we would say “Eier legende Wollmilchsau” for a wish like this, it means, it’s not to fulfill. But I believe and hope, I’ll find a scent like this one day!
    Cheers
    Safran

PS: In the meantime, a small size of JAR’s Jardenia would do.

  14. lucasai says:

At the moment I think I’d wish for something uber luxurious, namely Puredistance BLACK. I’m hooked by this perfume but with my student budget I will not be able to afford it in the next decade.

Or… I’d like to meet Daniela Roche-Andrier and have a great talk about perfume with her and then I imagine her proposing me to work together for fragrances. Plus I’d get a bespoke iris from her!

  15. arline says:

    I want what you said!!!

  16. Sabine says:

I had to think long about that one, but I think I would really like some magic wand that can change the longevity of a perfume. So many beautiful creations only last for a fleeting moment (I’m looking at you, Cuir de Nacre and 31 Rue Cambon). On the other hand, I’m often unable to decide which perfume I want to wear and would love to change my scent 4 times a day without layering up. So a Make-it-last-make-it-go-away-spell would be lovely.

  17. Vanessa says:

B, didn’t you once teach me this phrase – “Eier legende Wollmilchsau”? If it wasn’t you, it must have been my friend Andre, but I remember chuckling about it. Took me ages to even remember it correctly!

My wishes have already been summed up by Lucasai and – even more coincidentally you might say – Isabeau1977. 😉 I would also be dead chuffed with a bottle of Volutes EDT at this point.

  18. dgambas says:

I’d like to spend a day in Tauerville with Andy, working, packing… and sniffing.

  19. Tara says:

Put me down for the vintage dream haul please! At vintage prices too of course 🙂

  20. fleurdelys says:

My wish is very simple (and expensive) – a bottle of Roja Dove’s Diaghilev, and refills when I need them!

  21. JennyJo says:

Vintage Le Dix, enough bottles to last me the rest of my life.

  22. Eva S says:

That I could go on collecting perfume bottles en masse and no one of them would ever turn!

  23. Tomate Farcie says:

I’d like to be sitting in Paris with Neela Vermeire at the Lebanese restaurant she takes everyone to discussing perfume, books, art and well…life

  24. At the moment I am in a phase of intense perfume hunger: I just want as much as possible! Of prized vintage, new stuff, and a bottle of Vaniglia Del Madagascar for my birthday. I feel as if I am coming out of some kind of hibernation and need to CONSUME

  25. Anna says:

Three big bottles of Attrape-Coeur would suffice:) it would be great if Guerlain found a way to produce this within the current limitations.

  26. florence raab says:

Dear Birgit, I’d wish Byzance by Rochas to come back, I used to wear it for 10 years and I never found again another perfume I could call “my” smell…..

  27. What a wonderful and challenging question! If I could have one wish, it would be to be able to go back in time and do it all over again: I wish that I had let my passion for perfume flower earlier so I could have gone to perfumery school.

  28. I’d like to have a lifetime supply of REAL Vol de Nuit and Mona’s Oud…
