Bottle Of The Month: October – And a Giveaway!

This month I want to share a bit of my newest Guerlain: Shalimar Ode a la Vanille sur la route de Madagascar, a gorgeous oriental that is short-listed for the title of longest perfume name of the year. 🙂

The winner will receive a 5ml decant of Ode a la Vanille.

To enter please leave a comment on this post telling me the longest perfume name you remember (I’m sure flankers have better chances is this game.) This should be fun!

Tweeting or sharing this post on Facebook gets you an additional entry. The giveaway is open worldwide until November 6, Midnight GMT, and the winner will be announced on the blog on November 7.

Please be aware that I cannot be responsible for the doings of the post office and can’t replace lost packages.

Good luck everyone!

The first name that came to my mind is “Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York”.. I don’t know about the longest name, but that one definitely is very long 🙂

  2. Haha, with my bad memory, I’m hard-pressed to come up with anything right now! Ok, not the longest name, but one of the harder for me to get right: Comme des Garçons – Ouarzazate

  3. I had this one ” Yves Saint Laurent Opium Poesie de Chine pour Femme” in a decant a couple of years ago and I called it “an Opium flanker” if someone asked 🙂

  4. and as usual I share this on facebook and twitter 🙂

  5. Asali's avatar Asali says:

    What a great game 😀
Instantly springs to mid one of the Harvest names: Givenchy Harvest 2007 Very Irresistible Damascena Rose Givenchy for women! And browsing the Givenchys I found this contender; Ange ou Demon Le Secret Poesie d’un Parfum d’Hiver Givenchy for women- eeeerh, who comes up with this?
Hope your cold’s better, get well soon.

  6. goldiloks's avatar goldiloks says:

Have tweeted! Well I think this Shalimar wins hands down for name length! Instead I shall name the most silly (and awesome!) named perfumes, just for giggles ^_^

    Funeral Home – Demeter
    Full Choke – Francesco Smalto
Solar Donkey Power – Henrik Vibskov
    Cumming – Alan Cumming
    Pussy Deluxe – Pussy Deluxe
Ladyboy B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful for men – (this is pretty long!)
    Smell Bent – Franken Smellie
The Malignant Dreams of Cthulhu in Love – Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
    Poopoo Pidoo – Ego Facto
Fat Electrician – Etat Libre d`Orange
Where We Are There Is No Here – CB I hate Perfume

And now I am intruiged enough to want to try them all out! Ha!

  7. Rebecca's avatar Rebecca says:

This one has a long name for sure!
“Etat Libre d’Orange – Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes.”
I am not fluent in French but Google Translate tells me it means “the Son of God and Citrus Rice”. Sounds interesting. Will put on my “must smell” list!

  8. poodle's avatar poodle says:

A Lab On Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret. That’s a long one.

  9. Marie in Denmark's avatar Marie in Denmark says:

Estee Lauder Pure White Linen Light Breeze which I have worn for some years every summer 🙂

  10. Alexandra's avatar Alexandra says:

Oh no Poodle jumped in with my favourite ‘ALOFWWDIPIS’, otherwise ummm I do remember NST commenting that Victoria’s Secret names are getting a little ridiculous: Victoria’s Secret Sexy Little Things Noir Love Me (presumably with Light & Summer joining next)

  11. Jenson's avatar Jenson says:

Les Divines Alcoves – Dans Tes Bras by Crazylibellule & The Poppies!

  12. muza's avatar muza says:

Un Jour a Saint Jean de Luz by Parfums et Senteurs du Pays Basque was quite a name for me to remember, the name of the brand is even more challenging than the perfume’s one 🙂

  13. andreawilko's avatar andreawilko says:

What we do in Paris is secret.
    L’air du desert morocain.
Both mouthfuls as well as good girl gone bad which is quite short in comparison.
I am interested to know how similar is this version to the jade jagger edition? 🙂

  14. Un Jardin Apress La Mousson is not the longest but CLUNKIEST!!
    Portia xx

  15. Andrea's avatar Andrea says:

H.R.H The princess Alices (Princess of Hesse) Perfume by John Gosnell & Co’s in XIX century though!

  16. sujaan212's avatar sujaan212 says:

I love reading these crazy names. You guys are way too good for me but i did find this one: Illusions Noires Au Masculin Eau de Minuit Lolita Lempicka.

  17. judithl's avatar judithl says:

Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clement’s by Heeley of Paris is long. No doubt many SA’s have been stumped when a customer tries to remember all the words in a fragrance name.

  18. may's avatar may says:

    Givenchy Ange ou Demon
guess my memory isn’t good enough

  19. Marcella's avatar Marcella says:

L’Instant de Guerlain Eau de Noel Iris Millesime or something…

  20. mridula's avatar mridula says:

oh no I cant think of any truly long names. But please enter me in the draw. I’ll submit names I love:

Sarah Horowitz perfect perfumes are gorgeous and their names: Perfect Bliss, Perfect Kiss – genius! The one I really love is ‘Love Comes from Within’

Lots of French in perfume land but Parfums MDCI’s Un Coeur en Mai is personally evocative.

Black Pheonix Alchemy Lab really plays with my head. Where literature meets perfume is heady indeed – Yorick, Iago, Caliban to name a few. I want Caliban which is supposed to smell like salty sea and bittersweet palm wine. I don’t want Yorick which is supposed to smell like finality.

I have my funny name samples from Smell Bent on the way though they don’t have tracking (humph). I didn’t order Panda Gets Lei’dbut very amusing name.

I doubt a name or description could ever win over a perfume that doesn’t work sensually but like the bottle the name is part of the capture.

  21. Emma's avatar Emma says:

Oh ! I would love to smell this Guerlain : Shalimar Ode a la Vanille sur la route de Madagascar! The one I remember quite long but not in comparison is Rose Nacree du Desert from Guerlain.

  22. Dubaiscents's avatar Dubaiscents says:

I was going to say What we do in Paris is a Secret but, several people beat me to it. Pretty much all the french names are tongue twisters for me though!

  23. Joaquim's avatar Joaquim says:

I was going to say What we do in Paris is a Secret too, I need to be faster!
A line with long name is “Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab” but i don’t remember a perfume with a specially long name that has not been said here, so I’ll say the hardest name to remember (for me): O’driù Lalfeogrigio (i’m looking at his web right now in order to write the name in the correct way!).
Names like this are very anti-intuitive, but I think that most times are fitting very well the character of the line.

    Thank you for the draw!

  24. Andreja's avatar Civava says:

Oranges and Lemons say the bells of St Clement’s by Heeley as I’ve already seen up there. I can’t think of no longer at the moment.

  25. Maureen's avatar Maureen says:

Estee Lauder Pure White Linen Light Breeze is the longest named perfume I actually have a FB of. Thanks for the drawing

  26. Debora's avatar Debora says:

Hello! here i have some funny names, but i don´t think they are the longest ones!

    1) Xerjoff’s XJ 17/17 XXY Lapislazzuli

    2) Shiseido Majolica Majorca Majoromantica (this name sounds really funny for me)

    3) Brussels Sprouted Smell Bent (that doesn´t sounds good :-P)

    4) Citric Metal Kamasutra – Neotantric Fragrances (what did they mean?)

  27. Julie's avatar Julie says:

All the ones I though of have been taken – VSSLTNTT, WWDIPIS, and ELPWLLB. I would love to try this Shalimar though! I guess the longest one I own is La Maison de la Vanille Vanille Noire du Mexique. Thank you for the drawing!

  28. Ursula's avatar Ursula says:

Thank you for the draw. The longest name that comes to my mind:

A Lab Is On Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret

  29. Undina's avatar Undina says:

All By Kilian’s perfumes with a title and a sub-title (e.g. By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses, typical me), Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss and Thierry Mugler Angel Sunessence Ocean d’Argent.

Thank you for the draw! Very nice bottle 🙂

  30. Lean S's avatar Lean S says:

Haha … recently saw a post on Cafleurebon on Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab and was fascinated, so I checked it out. I remember seeing “The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”.. that would probably be the biggest perfume name I can think of. Thank you for the chance.

  31. hajusuuri's avatar hajusuuri says:

    How about:
La Maison de la Vanille Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar
The Different Company Un Parfum de Charmes et Feuilles

This reminds me of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Wales and if I recall, the train station name display was not shortened.

  32. Julie T's avatar Julie T says:

A Lab On Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret

  33. LCT's avatar LCT says:

Just tweeted! How about Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes? Thanks for the draw 🙂

  34. TaffyJ's avatar TaffyJ says:

Ah, the ones I thought of have been mentioned. This one isn’t that long, but I love saying it:
Etat Libre d’Orange Putain des Palaces

  35. lucasai's avatar lucasai says:

My ideas of Heeley and A Lab on Fire names were already used above so I’ll go with Frederric Malle Angeliques Sous La Pluie or Prada Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue.

An amazing draw you prepared for us.

  36. shylotus's avatar shylotus says:

Thanks for the draw Birgit! I, too, was going to say – A Lab on Fire In Paris What We Do Is Secret! I guess I left a comment too late to be original 🙂

  37. Ann-Sofie's avatar Ann-Sofie says:

Not the longest, neither the most ridiculous name, but complicated enough for a honorary mention, tadaa: Thierry Mugler Sunessence Edition Limitee 2011 Or d’Ambre.

    Thanks for the draw!

  38. Amandine Trois's avatar Amandine Trois says:

I think the Givenchy perfumes ususally have ridiculously long flanker names, but they pass right out my little brain, just like the scents themselves. 😉
Please enter me anyway, I love your blog, Birgit!

  39. trickyholly's avatar trickyholly says:

this is fun! Mine is too short, but since I’m wearing it today, I thought I’d share: Jovoy’s l’arbe de la Connaissance.

  40. Merlin's avatar Merlin says:

So I found these on Black Phoenix Alchemy lab, and thought they deserved a special mention. One is ‘Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues’ and the other is ‘Death on a Pale Horse’.

  41. drtvrmoi's avatar drtvrmoi says:

Bond No. 9’s I Love New York for Marriage Equality. Love the message; hate the name.

  42. drtvrmoi's avatar drtvrmoi says:

I shared your contest link on FB

    http://www.facebook.com/lika.deala

  43. calidreamin87's avatar calidreamin87 says:

I can’t really remember any super long ones so I’ll go with Demeter’s “Jelly Belly Sugar and Spice.”

  44. MIKY's avatar MIKY says:

    this is fun 🙂
mmm.. i think is Ralph Lauren Big Pony Series For Women.

  45. Anna's avatar Anna says:

I’m not good at this, but Annick Goutal has some looong names which are hard to remember. For example Mon parfum Cherie par Camille. (or something =D)

  46. GvilleCreative's avatar GvilleCreative says:

Ok, I did with without cheating by looking things up or looking at other comments. The longerst I could think of is The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things or Narcisco Rodriguez For Her Musc Intense Limited Edition, which I loved for both the bottle and the run on name.

I think that this is the Shalimar for me, so I hope I win! 🙂

  47. Raluca Kirschner's avatar Raluca Kirschner says:

Thanks for the draw! Narciso Rodriguez For Her Eau de Parfum Delicate Limited Edition Narciso Rodriguez for women :).

  48. Elisabeth's avatar Elisabeth says:

This is a tough one! The only one that comes to mind is the one I’m using currently, Boudoir Perfume by Vivienne Westwood.
