Sweet Milk was an impulse purchase (luckily I was with my husband who wanted me to select one bottle of my choice for my birthday). I took one whiff and I knew I had to have this. HAD to.
Part of the five item Tea Collection, Sweet Milk is the one that stands out for me. The others are fresh, tea-based colognes more of the usual Jo Malone variety. Fleeting, but refreshing and nicely done (by Christine Nagel, btw).
Sweet Milk is a scent to lean, to snuggle, to fall into, to cuddle up with and let go of all sorrow. It comes in 30ml bottles and is limited edition. Aargh, for once I would want a 250ml, ah, heck a 500ml vat delivered to my door every six months. I have Sweet Milk for barely a week and it is almost half empty already.
I need to be quick with my review, before it is gone.
Notes include star anise, heliotrope, bergamot, milk, caramel, vanilla, almond and musk.
Despite being a cologne, Sweet Milk is very long wearing, it is a skin-scent, no big sillage, but a definite presence. People who come close inevitably compliment me and ask what I am wearing. I am almost reluctant to tell them, for fear that they all run out and buy up the meagre supply the Vienna Jo Malone boutique has, leaving nothing for me to replenish my dwindling supply. I am glad most of you readers are not in Vienna. 🙂
Sweet Milk reminds me of my children, when they were newborns. So sweet and innocent, so pure and cuddly and cozy and warm.

Sweet Milk is a wonderful comfort scent, it makes me happy in one sniff. It figures that such a pleasure has a definite end, and one that is in sight already.

Oh, sigh. It’s sold out everywhere in the US right now, but Undina has kindly offered to send me a sample. I fear it will be love at first sniff, and then what will I do? See, I get panicky before it’s even time to get panicky. But, I will panic at some point, for good reason. 🙂

Another scent with milk I can think of is Amaranthine (condensed, though), a perfume that’s been on many of our minds lately. Amaranthine’s drydown is spectacular, in large part due to the creamy milky facet, I think.
As far as comfort scents go, my favorites include L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore, Diptyque Eau Duelle, Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Odin 01 Nomad, Guerlain Iris Ganache, Guerlain L’Heure Bleue and Ormonde Jayne Woman. I actually wear OJ Woman to bed every night, and I credit my nightly vivid, wacky dreams to the scent. The sandalwood and the other dry woods in it lull me to sleep like nothing else.
BTW, Niki is such a doll!
Carrie, I feel your rising panic! It is awful! I hope Jo Malone makes this one permanent, it has been such a success after all, and it is not like there is a single limiting ingredient in it, like a special harvest, or anything, so why not? I’ll be sure to get the 100ml bottle as soon as (if) it hits the market. I never found a Jo Malone I liked either, but this is truly love at first sniff.

Carrie, I tried the tea scents while I was in Houston, and this was the only one that stood out to me at all— it was very pretty, and struck me as something very good for layering. That said, I felt no compulsion whatsoever to purchase it. I hope that will help relieve a little bit of your panic!
On that same day, the Atelier Vanille Insensee very nearly caused me to pull out my debit card, just for a little perspective 😉

Comfort scents…I just realized I hardly have any comfort scents. Tea for Two springs to mind, though it is sort of a sexy comfort scent for me with its smokiness. Hmm, will have to think about this some more.

Safran Troublant is probably my favorite comfort scent, with it’s milky-metallic aspects. I also used Laurence Dumont Tendre Madeleine a lot over the cold months as a fuzzy blanket scent, to good effect!

I must admit I do not care for milky perfumes, but I do adore that milky baby scent you described.
I don’t have children, but I cared for a friend’s baby for a year – that’s how I came to love that scent. I have so many pleasant memories of that time and they all came flooding back while reading your review, so thank you!

Ah, there is no perfume like the perfume of a newborn baby…I saw your picture of Niki and was instantly transported back to a – empty, except for me, it being Christmas and all – maternity ward and Spider-Man Jr. of the Very Big Feet…
That milk note drydown of Amaranthine is probably the closest I’ve come to a milk scent, and I was surprised how much I liked that purring cat! Since we have no Jo Malone that I know of, I’ll have to dream!
But comfort scent…hmmm…Bellodgia is a comfort scent to me with its lovely, spicy sandalwood drydown, and so is SdV, although she is a bit more of a diva! If you can believe it, so is Fleurs d’Oranger – I spray it on my pillows before sleep and I’m out in an instant! The same goes for Encens et Lavande. (Don’t tell Uncle Serge! 😉 ) I’ve read that dried orange blossom is frequently put below the mattress in Iran as a sleep aid, and I can well believe it! (And lavender works a charm for fractious babies and active little boys!)
And suddenly, I feel so very sleepy…;-)

Oh, here we go. My favorite comfort scent is Sweet Milk! I contributed to it being sold in the US. I don’t need a lot of it to put on, and I do layer for a slightly different mood with Earl Grey and Cucumber.
I went to smell the entire Tea Collection and bought three of them — Sweet Milk, Earl Grey and Assam and Grapefruit. Sweet Milk became a true favorite. I love it. My experience with it is the same — compliments come my way. Thanks for a great review!

I tend to like “milky” fragrances like Omnia. I find them very comforting. I haven’t tried any of those new Jo Malone launches and I can’t get my hands on them 😦 Sold out over here.
I am sorry that they are sold out! But maybe that shows the company how very necessary it is to make them permanent (or at least Sweet Milk, I have not much of an opinion about the others).
