Where Is Heaven? – Turns Out It Is In Belgium!

This post was published last year, when almost nobody saw it. I thought it would be a good time to refresh your memory, and publish it again in slightly updated form, since my Bottle of the Month for March came from there and a bit of eye candy never hurt anyone…

Through a post by Dimitri on Sorcery of Scent I became aware of Place Vendome Haute Parfumerie.

This is a place every perfume lover should know about. On my quest to explore the House of Guerlain in its entirety (I know, quite a project) and no immediate plans to go to Paris, I was delighted to find out about this boutique. They ship worldwide and added many lovely samples to my order.

Samples of perfume and skincare by Guerlain

They carry the entire lines of Guerlain (including boutique exclusives), Chanel (again including the Les Exclusifs), Amouage, Cartier (oh yes, plus Les Heures) and Annick Goutal.

Three 4ml samples of Cartier’s Les Heures Collection.

The customer service is outstanding, they are quick, helpful and very knowledgeable. Something we all know is not exactly to be expected nowadays.

All thirteen Les Exclusifs!

I have samples to keep me occupied for quite some time! But what did I actually order?

Watch this space! 😉

Check out Place Vendome’s website or Facebook Page if you haven’t already. Heaven is in a small town in Belgium. Who knew?

Wow, it is worth placing an order just for the free samples, I did not know you could even get samples of the guerlain exclusives, they seem to be elusive even in the Paris boutique. Free shipping to Europe as well, what is not to love? I shall be exploring their website today. Thanks for sharing a wonderful source. I can’t wait to find out what you bought.

    • Olfactoria says:

It might be that the sample profusion has a bit to do with me being a blogger…
But they surely give samples to all customers, maybe not quite that many though.

It is a wonderful store though and I’m glad to know it is there when I need it. 🙂

    • Philipp says:

When I inquired about Guerlain’s scented candles, I was told shipping to Italy would cost me 10 Euros. So I guess shipping is only free for certain EU countries.

  2. civava says:

Well that is very good to know. Thank you!

  3. Gogol says:

Thanks for this – I need to try them out, as there is no Guerlain boutique in Rome where I live.
To fellow European fumeheads, may I recommend a few other excellent perfume heavens:

http://www.allaviolettaboutique.com/ (my favorite online source, fast and reliable shipping via UPS)
http://www.parfumneroli.hu/ (great value samples, very kind and efficient service)
http://www.campomarzio70.it/modx/en/121/ (perhaps the best perfume store in Italy – no online store as yet, but contact them via e-mail. Definitely worth a visit, it’s a treasure trove)

  4. Breathtaking! One of the very last independant stores.

Now we have Sephoras around every corner, but we all know what they are selling.

  5. Parfumista says:

Have to lock in my card when I look at their site 🙂 Chanel Les Exclusifs are hard to find as also the exclusive Guerlain lines, I think Copenhagen is the nearest place for us in Sweden . Thank you for paying attention to this beautiful store. Online stores which I have good experience from are: Fragrance & Art http://fragranceandart.com/ , Aus Liebe zum Duft http://www.ausliebezumduft.de/ , Alla Violetta http://www.allaviolettaboutique.com/ . For “mainstream” fragrances and some niche: 99Perfume http://www.99perfume.com/ and Fragrancenet http://www.fragrancenet.com/ have been reaible sources for more than ten years. Both US but as they have branches or affiliated in Europe you don’t have to worry about customs. Escentual http://www.escentual.com/ is also very good

    • Olfactoria says:

Thank you for the links, Parfumista! (Sorry , your comment landed in the spam folder, because of them, I just now found it there.)
Tarleisio always speaks of Scandinavia being the perfume-free quarter of Europe, thank God for online stores, huh? 🙂

  6. deeHowe says:

Beautiful! I cannot wait to see the March bottle… 😉

  7. lady jane grey says:

Birgit, I went to examine the homepage, but I still can’t see their complete product portfolio, or how to order ? I wonder if I got problems to see the entire site…

    • Olfactoria says:

No, it is not an online store. You have to know what you want or at least have an idea, but that is not a problem for us, is it? 😉 There is a contact page where you can email them. They are very helpful and friendly. You can order through email or on the phone and pay with Paypal or bank transfer.

  8. Warum says:

What a lovely post with eye candy and suspense!
Yes, Birgit, I am watching this space 🙂

  9. Tara says:

I remember drooling over this the first time around! It’s great that they do the Guerlain exclusives. Now, I think my bet is going on Tonka Imperiale…

  10. Anita T. Monroe says:

Belgium is “heaven” in more than one way. The French actor G. Depardieu is also a gourmand. He went on a search for a chicken that had as good flavor as the ones of his youth. After a long and arduous search, he found that fowl in Belgium.
That shop is so beautiful that it will probably show up in my dreams. Do they ship to the US? Probably not. sigh

  11. Vanessa says:

If there is a natural correlation between numbers of “samples with purchase” and main purchase, i would have to say that the March bottle is either very big, very “Exclusif” or very bespoke, hehe! But there may, as you suggest, be a possible “blogger bias” at work here, meaning that I am none the wiser. However, if you already got your replacement Angelique, Tonka Imperiale was another Guerlain you have enjoyed lately. Hmm, not long to go till you put us out of our suspense!

    • Olfactoria says:

I actually haven’t said anything about Tonka Imperiale yet, although you are right and I like it very much, but it was Cuir Beluga I already reviewed. 🙂

      • Vanessa says:

I wasn’t even thinking in terms of reviews as such, more perfumes “in the air” as being ones you like – that you have mentioned somewhere along the line, and as happened to Tara, Tonka Imperiale just popped into my head! : – )

  12. Suzanne says:

Thank you for re-posting this. I’m off to visit their website now to see if there are more photos … that photo at the top of your post is absolutely stunning. Belgium is pretty well known for their high-quality of everything, yes? Lace, chocolates, pastries … and my favorite beer is from Belgium. (Hoegaarden. Or at least the original recipe is from Belgium, anyway, and it’s got a delicious cardamom note in it.) 🙂

  13. And yet again I find myself wishing I lived in Europe. What a great collection! I look forward to finding out what you added to your wardrobe, Birgit!

  14. Gogol says:

I received my order from Place Vendome.today. I got a wonderful set of free extras. Best perfume store in Europe? Wonderful customer service. Warmly recommended.
