Monday Question – What Is Your Next Purchase?

We all have lists, or most of us do. Lists of what to smell next, what to buy, what to wish for, what to dream about for a little or a long while…

What is highest up on your to buy-list?

What is the next perfume you want to add to your collection?

question-mark

My Answer:

Next on my list? Given the fact that my list is subject to great instability, I can only answer that question for sure when I find myself standing at the till in a perfume store. The top three items on my to buy list change daily and what I actually end up buying is often dependent on my mood at the moment I make it to a store.

So to answer, I’ll have to go with what is highest up right now, fully knowing that it will be different tomorrow: Hermessence Vetiver Tonka. But it could also be Chanel Coromandel. Or my third bottle of Hermès L’Ambre de Merveilles.

What about you?

25 kilos of dinkel/spelt. Mito Voile. In that order. Haha. xxx

  2. Lady Jane Grey says:

In fact, my list hasn’t changed for a while (10 months?), it’s just that it takes me much longer to make the actual shopping… Nabucco Amytis, Heeley’s Verveine and Iris. On the other hand, unexpected beauties pushed themselves into “to buy” position (Hedonist)

  3. Dubaiscents says:

I wish I could stick to my list but, things always pop up that make me change my mind on my top to buy items. I keep saying Roja Dove’s Fetish pour Femme is my next FB purchase but, then I see things like the Slumberhouse limited edition Zahd and I “must” have it. I also have LM Parfums Ambre Muscadine as a to buy. And I have a feeling that Andy’s new Khandahar Rose is going to be another one I can’t resist! Should I go on? Although I probably will end up buying more Amouage Attars before any of these (but mostly for the split I am hosting).

  4. haefennasiel says:

Next essential purchase: eye checkup and new glasses!
Next perfume purchase: Depends on what I’ll discover in the next neighborhood garage sale! 😉

  5. isabeau1977 says:

My list only gets longer..but the first I want to buy is Ashoka by Neela Vermeire. And also on my list are: Opardu-Pure Distance, Silver Iris- Atelier Cologne, Serge Lutens-De Profundis, Artisan-Deliria, Amouage-Fate, Iris Nazarena, Violette Fumee-Mona di Orio and Rose en Noir-Miller Harris….but altogether this is quite a staggering amount..but we still have Christmas 😉

  6. Alice says:

cookie queen, i love your avatar!
Birgit – you don’t have vetiver tonka already? I’m surprised! Time for an inventory.
As for me…something from perfume d’empire, probably Cuir Ottoman. I admire the line, but don’t own any, so purely in the spirit of being a responsible consumer I feel I should stop messing around with samples and actually buy one (that’s my excuse! good isn’t it?)

    • Olfactoria says:

I had a 15ml bottle that is now gone, so that is why I need to consider a replacement.

Very good excuse, and Cuir Ottoman is great!

    • cookie queen says:

      Thanks. 😜

    • farouche says:

I’m wearing Cuir Ottoman today (from a sample) and was thinking the same thing (that I may need to own a bottle, or at least a large decant). I love the way the strong opening becomes a warm and cozy leather dry down. So nice for this time of year.

      • Alice says:

Yes, leathers generally are good at this time of year – ‘dry woods’ is my favourite category of perfume, and so this is very tempting. Also, unlike so many brands, you can get a sensible size of bottle. I don’t do decants, so that’s a big plus!

  7. poodle says:

My to buy list is wide open at the moment. There are plenty of perfumes I think I want but nothing at the moment is really tugging at my heartstrings. I guess that’s good in a way. As far as non-perfume purchases I had an eye exam last week and I need a new pair of glasses. I could use a new pair of jeans too.

  8. Gretchen says:

Oh, Trayee, without question! But then, I may wind up with Sonoma Scent’s Forest Walk and Winter Woods while I wait, as I promised myself I would use my decants first before buying Neela’s masterpiece. And my daughter wants Bottega’s rose fragrance for Christmas, so watch that be the next bottle buy….

  9. Thankfully at the moment there is nothing that I have to have. However, I am wanting to test Neela’s Ashoka and LM’s Sensual Orchid as I’ve heard both are incredible. But at present my wallet is remaining happy 🙂

  10. Alexandra says:

Lila is completely to blame because she kindly gave me sample and now I have been yearning for a bottle of Illuminum Black Rose for AGES…

Having said that a fb of Mohur would be just glorious.

  11. Asali says:

Fun question. Yes, actually high(est) on my list is Cuir de Russie parfum. But to justify buying a new perfume at that price, I feel I need to sell off a few things to pay for it. You know, it’s not like we lack perfume bottles 🙂

  12. florence raab says:

on my list, I’d say I wait to have finished to buy second bottle of Absolue pour le soir by MFK, my third bottle of Tardes by Carner Barcelona and my second bottle of Ambre russe…….But I don’t know I’d like so much to buy Louanges Profanes by Parfumerie Générale, sometimes, and the day I’m not sure anymore to love it. Some advice or review of Louanges Profanes by the great perfumistas could help me, please………..

    • Olfactoria says:

Replacing old loves is one of my favorite things to do (probably because it happens so seldom). You have great things on your list.
As for Louanges Profanes, if you are not sure, don’t buy it. Your instict is telling you the right thing!

  13. lucasai says:

Not sure if I have something on my to-buy list at the moment. There were Atelier Cologne Silver Iris and Gold Leather on it but I already have them (well, almost, GL is in delivery) If I could afford it, Puredistance Black would be on my list. Am also thinking of Histoires de Parfums 1899, not sure if I’ll buy it

  14. Tara says:

Great question. Love reading what is on people’s To Buy lists.

I finally managed to cross Ambre Narguile off my list and it’s now on its way to me.

Now I need Bois d’Encens or Eau de Mandarine Ambre to come up on the ‘bay at a good price.

  15. shellyw says:

Hedonist and an Hermes essence of some sort, several are lovely. Of Bois de Isle and several FMalle are on the wish list too. Nice to dream….

  16. Sabine says:

My to buy list is always changing, of course, and what’s on top depends not only on the perfume, but on something I call Beauty maths, and involves complicated arithmetics based on loyalty points, upcoming GWP offers, actual loyalty (shop X has given me many samples, I should buy from them) and other weird things. Plus, I’m off to Paris this Wednesday and really want to purchase something from the Guerlain shop. Decisions, decisions…

  17. Well I find it terribly difficult to decide on purchases as there seem to be 100’s of them calling my name. Probably at the beginning of the perfume craze it is a little tricky working out favourites as so many seem to hit the spot and perhaps you aren’t as juidicious as those further down the track. Anyway I am definitely in love with many of the Tauer’s and have just bought Incense Rose and am thinking of getting another soon but I’m finding it pretty hard to pick which one. On the list are Zeta, Une Rose Vermeille, LADM, Le Maroc Pour Elle and Une Rose Chypree. Plus he is releasing another Rose in November which sounds pretty good. Anyway I’m sure I’ll make a decision at some point. Apart from the Tauer’s I have my eye on Jeux de Peau for winter.

  18. Guido says:

My next is gonna be Chanel n.22! 200 ml bottle! 🙂

  19. janeykate says:

Mmmm…. next on my to buy list is something that reminds me of home. So, roses and honeysuckle, jasmine and narcissus. I will let you know if I find anything!
    Jane x

  20. julia says:

vetiver tonka is the only hermessence left on my list! but at the moment, sacrebleu intense by parfums de nicolai and green, green, green and green by miller et bertaux are on the top of my to-purchase list. although why i’m buying spring/summer perfumes in fall and winter, i don’t know, haha

  21. AnneD says:

The lovely Hermes L’Ambre is on the top of my list, along with Chanel Beige and maybe one of the new Tom Fords. I recently succumbed to impulse buying though at the HauteLook half off sale on the Diptyques. I purchased the Vetiver one and L’Ombre. I just couldn’t say no to the prices, so they moved to the top of my “to buy” lists. If I can get to an Hermes boutique I will check out Vetiver Tonka and that may end up an impulse buy as well.

  22. Even God doesn’t know that ;-). But I’m very eager to get something vintage as a bargain. Very hopefully.

  23. While I am trying very hard to be frugal and limit personal expenses, there are several things that I truly crave. On the top of the list are Mona’s Oud and Musc. Then there is the fact that I have
never experienced anything from Amouage or Andy Tauer. The new Violette Fumée also sounds appealing. God help my budget…sigh..

  24. Melinda says:

We have something in common with Coromandel. My top 3 on my list to buy is Tom Ford Champaca Absolute‎, Chanel Coromandel and Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Inital 🙂

  25. Lavanya says:

As of Friday, I thought my next bottle was going to be something Ormonde Jayne (probably Tolu) since I plan to visit the store in December. However on Saturday I bought a partial bottle of vintage Shalimar that I chanced upon in an antique store..Shalimar is one fragrance that I always get obsessed about- I can go days on end wearing a bit of the parfum (as a sleep scent, I usually don’t wear it out, though I’m wondering whether to risk it today. There is a party, do you think vintage shalimar will be too out of line? Though by the time the party happens it’lll be the drydown which isn’t that ‘bad’). So of course now I can’t get Shalimar out of head and I really would like to buy the ‘parapluie’ bottle of vintage Shalimar.

Travel plans and other things aside- I really must buy a bottle of Black Aoud- it has been on my list for ever.

  26. Connie says:

I don’t think I’m ready for large amounts of anything yet, but I have quite a few that I’d like to get maybe 5 mL of after having enjoyed and used up smaller samples- Cuir de Nacre, Ambre Russe, and Rose de Nuit.

  27. lila says:

Coromandel is on my “Next Purchase” list too! It’s the only Exclusif that I deem full bottle worthy. Wait, it’s the only Chanel that I deem FB worthy! Also on my list is VC&A Orchidee Vanille. I was able to sample Ramon Monegal Cuirelle and Marni this weekend and both of those may have made the list too. As I’m typing this I’m anxiously awaiting a delivery of Ambre Sultan. These should do me for fall/winter!

  28. behemot says:

Hedonist, to cheer me up in winter 🙂

  29. Sally M says:

Along with my perfume mania, I have a boot mania and its that time again, so I will be out scouring the stores for THE pair of boots to go with all of the other THE pairs of boots I own 😉
For perfume I have been waiting eons for a bottle of Liu in the wonderful black and gold art deco bottle (with box) to come along – I have been outbid several times on eBay and I think it’s about time I won!

    • Olfactoria says:

Best of luck on ebay! Liu is worth the hunt.

I completely understand the boots obsession, with me it is winter jackets (I have a few too many, but still THE jacket is always so tempting…) 😉

  30. hildegunn says:

My next is gonna be Amouage Interlude Man. Why I didn’t buy it the moment I laid nose on it i London, I still don’t know. Maybe because I was set on being an (almost) good girl and getting Maison Fracis Kurkdjian Lumiere Noire pour Femme and By Kilian Incense Oud (refill version) instead…But Interlude will be mine before the year is up. And probably L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore and Mona di Orio Cuir as well.

  31. happyface313 says:

Could use a new bottle of perfume, but I am waiting for the new Hermessence… 🙂 thanks to YOU 🙂
Have a lovely and HAPPY week 🙂

  32. Figuier says:

Hmmm, no major general wants at the moment; come the sales I’ll look again. And I’ve rather exceeded my quota this year – which is actually quite atypical – so probably no more perfume purchases until 2014…at which point the top spot will be fought over by Lys 41 and Vanille Galante.

Although…the news of Mon Parfum Cheri’s discontinuation has me trawling the net for a bottle of edp (any suggestions?)

  33. Missionista says:

Next up is Hermes Caleche (probably soie de parfum concentration), as I have now gone through one sample, am hoarding my second sample, and have also gone through most of a vintage sample…Clearly I just need to buy this already. SO, when I celebrate my new job, whatever it may turn out to be, I’m getting a bottle, dammit!

  34. lorraine says:

Most likely Coromandel – or if I fall in love with one of the Amouage attars Dubaiscents is splitting, one of those might sneak ahead in line.

  35. Bee says:

waiting for an unexpected inheritance or a lottery win or a some random perfume-generous millionaire, my wish list at the moment consists of Irisss and some puredistances, with maybe a by Kilian travel spray in the mix, so in the meantime I’ll continue working and looking at you people’s somewhat more reasonable lists for Inspiration (Tardes could be a good one)

  36. Eva S says:

Last week I got hold of a FB of Bois des Iles, so that one’s of the list.
My next purchases will be Amouage Fate Woman and Arquiste Anima Dulcis, almost certainly.
Puredistance Black,NV Ashoka and Espice Marine all seems very tempting, but sampling first! 🙂

  37. laniersmith says:

Darling! Get the Chanel Coromandel! You will not be sorry for a single moment. As for me I want very much to get Bois D’Argent by Dior as well as Eau Noir. Then there is Bois des Iles by Chanel and NO.19. BUT at the very moment it is one of any of the Atkinsons1799 line. Oh boy are they gorgious. You must visit there website If you have not already. They just came over to us last week so upon smelling them I fell under their spell.

  38. Elisa says:

Une Rose Chypree and Incense Rose were on my wishlist for the longest time, and I finally got 15 ml bottles as part of the Tauer discovery set. On my decant list (though I wouldn’t kick full bottles out of bed, naturally) are Cadjmere, Santal Majuscule, Fifi Chachnil, and MdO Musc.

  39. Undina says:

At the moment there is nothing on my immediate “to buy” list. I’m still trying to decide if I should go for one of By Kilian’s “gardens” – but I crave the clutch more than any of the perfumes it comes wth. Bois de Isles extrait might be nice (before they raised prices again or reformulated it beyond the recognition). Hermes’ new colognes… Or Atelier’s Silver Iris… But I’m not sure yet – we’ll see.

I like your choices. Vetiver Tonka is my favorite in the line but in a year my 15 ml travel bottle isn’t even 1/3 empty. Coromandel’s season has just started but I predict that I won’t need more than my decant until the next season. Or later.

    • Olfactoria says:

I feel the same. Those three are on the top of my list, but I am not making an immediate move on them. We’ll see… I’m pretty happy with my current perfume use (a perfume for a whole week, change at the weekend).

All the ones you mention, I find interesting too.

  40. Ines says:

Actually, now I have a bottle of Cuirelle, I don’t think there is anything on my list… I’ve decided to try and keep my expenses down and at the moment, there is nothing that I truly have on my list.
Yes, I’d like some of the missing Shalimar versions I don’t have yet, and the Mitsouko parfum Asali gave me to try, but none of those are really on my list – I believe they will find their way to me eventually.
Now I’ve said all this, I’ll probably discover something I really need tomorrow. 😀

  41. Laurels says:

The top of my wish list is Amouage Lyric Woman, but the Parfum d’Empire sample set is more likely.

  42. Dionne says:

I’ve got maybe one wearing of Bel Respiro left in my decant, but since we’re moving into winter here, I think I can hold off on that until the spring. Top of the list right now would be SSS’s Champagne de Bois. The last time I wore it I said to The Engineer, “Why don’t I own this yet?” I intend to rectify that.

  43. I think next on my buy list is Serge Lutens Bas de Soie. I got a $100 Amazon gift card for my birthday about a month ago, and I had decided I was going to buy a bottle of Dune and then either a bottle of Chergui or Bas de Soie. I was torn, but eventually Chergui won because I figured I would wear that one more now for fall, whereas BdS I would wear more later, in the spring/summer.

  44. I’m jonesing for a bottle of Byredo’s 1996 right now. Nigel is buying himself a new iPad so I may wangle myself a little treat!

  45. Vanessa says:

Haha, I am really trying not to! I would love a tube of Puredistance Black when it comes out, but am not really in the market for it, and nearly bought AG Musc Nomade in T K Maxx for £60, but magically managed to stay my hand. 🙂

    • Olfactoria says:

Very understandable, although I would definitely have grabbed the Musc Nomade, especially as the old bottles are so much more beautiful than the new, plainer ones.
