My resolution for the coming year in fragrance is that I am allowed to purchase one bottle a month, and only one I had a crush on for more than a month. In this series of monthly posts, I will proudly present that bottle.
The month of January saw the advent of a new bottle I had been craving for quite some time – Armani Privé La Femme Bleue.
For February I was planning on adding Chanel Coromandel to my collection, but a friend (Thank you, E.!) generously sent me a decant so that purchase was pushed back. Instead I got lucky and found a full bottle of Hermès Santal Massoia, the newest Hermessence on eBay, I pounced and a few days later my big and beautifully greige bottle arrived from France.
I need to learn to make better photos though… please try to ignore all the fingerprints, I didn’t have the chance to do them over.
I’m happy with Santal Massoia, it has a back to the roots feel for me, since Ellena and his creations were my first love and a huge part of my way into Perfumeland. Also it is a wonderful perfume for sick days, of which we had many in the past weeks.
The next months are already filled with ideas for my next additions to my collection. We’ll see what March has in store soon… 🙂

Ooh this is a tough question to answer. Lately, I’m drawn to fragrance based on moods. I can’t truly describe what my dream scent would be – I would say it would be an amber or musk that had vanilla and some coconut notes involved. I will say that it would be light meaning it would be meant to be smelled by someone that is super close to you. But if I want something fruity I would automatically go with something that had a plum note.

As for dream perfume; absolutely femme bleue. Why? Because I sprayed in Paris on my self and on a blotter envelope, and the envelope
still smells divine, I’m kicking myself

And about VdN, I shouldn’t be greedy really, I do have some eighties extract, but I was thinking something VERY old (a decade I have lived through doesn’t really seem to qualify ;-)), and a lot of it, that one wouldn’t need to be afraid to apply the precious drops or give them away to fellow perfumistas. Oh, I know these are greedy thought indeed…

Perfume of my dreams? Oh gosh. Right now I’m most wanting a bottle of Tableau de Parfums Miriam.
However, if we’re going to talk about really out there fantasy perfumes to put on display, maybe that new Tokyo Sky Tree perfume that is like $700. Or a Grossmith. In a Baccarat bottle. Even if it smells so-so. Just because.
How about a Guerlain in a Baccarat bottle? It’s beautiful and smells better than so-so? 😉

Every since I started loving and buying fragrances, I limit my purchases to one full bottle per month. I think that is perfectly reasonable, because I don’t have unlimited funds and because I don’t want to amass too many albatrosses.
Regarding the dream perfume: if I could have a scent created according to my wishes, it would be a pear-iris accord on a salty-buttery vetiver-suede base. It is the combination of my favourite notes and I am sure a good nose could make it work.
Otherwise I would be happy with the largest bottle of Chanel’s La Pausa so that I could re-apply the scent every two hours.

The funny thing is that a pear-iris accord already exists. Apparently B. Duchaufour created it, but he has not released it yet/incorpoarated it into a fragrance. He modified it to create la Belle Helene.

For my dream perfume I would love to see a deep green woods take on violets, something a little dark and unexpected. I love violets but it would be good to see them in a slightly less ‘pretty’ composition.
As for things that already exist: an original blue glass bottle of Guet-Apens would fit really nicely into my life!

This IS hard. Right now, my dream perfume basically consists of something that smells just like Armani Prive Bois d’Enscens. I’d love it to be in a bottle kind of like the first one in your post above, but with a black stone. And I’d adore for it to not be upwards of $300 on eBay. 😉

I am fairly new to your blog and have commented on my dream perfume on other blogs, so sorry for the repeat but no one has created it yet: the seasonal cycle of a maple tree. It starts with the green sap & smell of the seeds, with a fleeting whiff of immortelle for the syrup (I’m not a big fan of sweet), the tangy scent of the dry leaves, with the smoky scent of burning leaves in the drydown. Ahhhhh. 🙂 Thanks for the draw!

My dream scent is a powdery/leather/woods thing. I think the description would be powdered woman riding a horse through the woods in winter, past a cottage spouting wisps of smoke from the snowy chimney.
Oh, and my husband would have to actually like it. THAT’S the dream part!

The dream perfume is always the one I do not have! It is just out of reach… It would definitely have Mysore sandalwood in it, though, and a touch of aged patchouli. If I ever do capture the dream perfume, it will be something I never expected–like falling in love.

As the others said: hard question! Actually I’d love a bottle of Vol de Nuit just so I could display it, it’s so beautiful — so of course it’d have to be empty! As for the juice, in the past year I’ve been looking for the perfect green that would completely encapsulate a day out with cut grass, garden leaves, maybe wet earth, and felt that none of the ones I tested were green enough, crisp enough, or “literal” enough. So I’m still looking, although I can now better appreciate the more “metaphorical” greens out there. I think now I’m starting quests for the perfect leather-tobacco, the perfect violet and the perfect rose. The violet search started with my sample of vintage Caron Violette précieuse, and maybe I should start there, it was extremely beautiful. I just don’t know where to look. As for the rose (and I’m not a rose lover), FM Une Rose seemed like a good place to start when I sniffed it on paper last week! 🙂
Your resolution is a very good one — I should try to do that! (I bought two bottles this month, but I can’t feel too guilty, it’s the lovely En Passant that I’ve been lemming since this summer, as well as the amazing Do Son, the fragrance that made me like tuberose.) But I’d probably make it bad by buying a ton of samples to compensate… 🙂
There are so many things to smell, so many great options. Maybe that’s the dream – to keep on discovering amazing perfumes. 🙂

In NYC this past weekend, I was fortunate enough to sample By Killian’s Amber Oud. Simply perfection. I’d love to add it to my collection but it’s beyond my reach,
Ooooooh, yes! Amber Oud is perfection. It fulfilled and surpassed all my already sky-high expectations.

And the question – oh, so difficult to answer if it comes down only to one fragrance…However, the first two places in my wish list this season are for Armani Prive Cologne Eclat de Jasmin and L’Artisan Parfumeur Voleur de Roses (seems like something floral knocked my nose off ;0)).
But if you ask about a dreamy composition – that’s something that I would speculate gladly and instantly over (all of the following notes are my favorite in perfumes):
top notes – bergamot peel, grapefruit juice, artemisia (but in a herbal outcome, not a liqueur), cardamom (Earl Grey tea association)
heart notes – rose petals, violet petals, amaretto, yunnan tea leaves, iris butter
base notes – fig bark and leaves, patchouli, vetyver, white musk and dark amber.
I love more than these notes in a perfume – cinnamon, coffee, cocoa, baby powder, raspberry, orange blossom, leather (especially suede), carnation, labdanum, gerranium, blackberry, aoud, incense and even gardenia, but they don’t feel like right to fit the whole combo…
Even if I don’t get the samples, I am glad you challenged my mind. I always wonder about what I would put or take out of some perfumes, but never ended up with a complete pyramid!
One more thing – I didn’t write under the “Le Femme Bleue…” posting, so I would ask you here – do you feel that the cocoa there is dry and dusty, or it is just like the cocoa in a milky chocolate?
It is not as dusty dry as the chocolate in SL Borneo for example, but not the sweet milk chocolate of PG Musc Maori either, I’d say it is right in the middle, with a slight leaning towards the drier side.

I face the same dilemma, on my Exclusifs list are 28 La Pausa, 31RC, Coromandel and Bois des Iles. Not all this year though…
(There is a Bois des Iles overlap on our lists – that is something to think about… 😉 )
My perfume dream recently came true when my husband bought me a FULL BOTTLE of Cuir de Russie for Xmas. I feel a kinship (yes, KINSHIP) with this perfume. I also have a terrible hankering for a full bottle of Rose Ikebana, as I am quickly using up my travel spray. I love your Santal bottle, btw. 🙂 I haven’t tried that one yet and am therefore hoping that I win. So far, I don’t think that I’ve found an Hermes perfume that I haven’t loved. Thanks for the draw! A more dense, longer lasting Terre d’Hermes might be my dream fragrance and I want to try Santal Massoia. I love Lutens Iris Silver Mist, so Bleue sounds like it might also be a winner.

That is a good point – the ability to immediately recognize your dream perfume. I’m ashamed to say I’m not at all sure I would, experience has taught me that the great loves that stay with me, were most often not love at first sniff.

My dream perfume would highlight the true smell of a fern patch: I know, I know, many say ferns don’t smell. Maybe florist’s ferns don’t but wood ferns do and it is just lovely: fresh, milky, and green. I would layer these notes over a smooth suede and some mosses. To really be my dream perfume it would have to have Olvia Giacobetti’s En Passant grace and a development that is both surprising and beautiful.Thanks a million for your generous draw. The perfume of my dreams would be an exact olfactory rendition of the royal court of Siam 200 years ago. The Thai people are so aware of scents, so attuned to them, and, the way I understand it, much of their culture once originated from that court. Of course, no one knows exactely what it smelled like, so it’s impossible to recreate, therefore it’s the perfume of my dreams.
How intriguing! That is an era and area I sadly know very little about. It sounds wonderful.

Right now my dream is Neela Vermeire’s Trayee, this replaced my other dream bottle of Krigler’s Lovely Patchouli.
I also would love a Vol de Nuit bottle, full of perfume or not, I just love that bottle. They sold a sparkle spray at Christmas time and I fell in love with the bottle, but not enough to buy sparkle spray that I’ll never wear!
The VdN bottle is so great! I thought about the glitter spray as well, but no – I’d rather have the real thing. 🙂

I’m always searching for The Perfect Chypre that could replace the Mitsouko of my youth, although I have a suspicion that, reformulations aside, it’s a bit like an idealised memory of a first love, impossible to live up to!
Craving of the month is a FB of FK Lumiere Noire pour femme.
Most of all I guess I want that unexpected “Eau My God”-moment (thanks for the expression, CPB!) thats why I keep sampling!
That might well be true, the memory glorifies the past and in most cases the reality can’t live up to that.

I used to wear Ralph Lauren tuxedo in the 80’s. I would love to come across a vintage bottle! It made me feel so sophisticated when I was a young girl, just starting my career.

My dream perfume… Every time I have to answer any questions related to perfumes (“choose a brand/10 perfumes/perfumer and stick to them for the rest of your life”-type) I spend a completely unreasonable amount of time thinking – as if I’ll actually have to follow through. So after thinking this time I realized that I don’t want to name any real perfume as a dream perfume: if I like them enough I’ll buy them so it’s not a dream, it’s a plan. So, what am I dreaming about? A perfume with a realistic Daphne odora note.
(no need entering me into the drawing: I have a sample of Santal Massoia and as for LFB… As I said above, I wasn’t that great with seeing through my New Year resolutions 😉 )

Hooray for sticking to resolutions! I am trying to do that, as well. Mine is to use up a full sample, and then wait a week or two (or three), and if I am still thinking about said perfume, then I may purchase.
I believe I have found my perfect perfume. Sarah Horowitz Perfect Veil. It just smells like “me” but better. Perfectly clean, but not soapy. Sweetened by a touch of powder, but not like a candied baby bum. It is just beautiful, and I am eeking out the last drop of my sample vial! I imagine a bottle will make its way to my door sometime next month! 🙂

For a long time, I have wanted four things combined in a single fragrance: leather, wood smoke, birch tree buds, and angelica. The scent of a cold early morning in the northern wilds, after the first spring thaw. How I long to be able to wear such a scent… someday I’ll ask someone to make it for me, if all else fails. 🙂

I’ll jump on the vintage VdN extrait bandwagon. I hunted after this fragrance for more than 20 years until, with the help of the internet, I finally found some.

My dream fragrance used to be an actual fragrance that was made by Lola cosmetics and came in a tiny (dram?) roller bottle. The notes listed were: bergamot, currant, mandarin, jasmine, iris, nutmeg, patchouli, oakmoss, musk and brassia seeds. I loved it and evidently it worked well with my chemistry because I always received positive feedback when wearing it. Thanks for the draw Birgit! You are so generous to offer these to share. =)

this is a wonderful idea! So do you reorganize the wish list based on whether you have a decant or not? Makes sense, I think it is more flexible this way.
My dream perfume is a floral aldehyde with light bubbly aldehydes in the top, a pronounced floral heart (lilac, hyacinth, LOTV and a hint of rose) and a comforting base, sightly green but not too green (not too much oakmoss, for instance). Never too green, never too oily, never too dry, feminine through and through.
My current purchase dream are the Amouages — I want Gold, Epic and Dia. Yikes!

Three Amouages on the list is a major investment. I’m glad I have my three dream Amouages already, unless Christopher Chong brings out something devastatingly new and gorgeous, I’m all set…
I have been digging oils and attars lately… I dream of having the entire Amouage line of attars in front of me to play with! Most are only available in the middle east. The Perfumed Court has samples but they are soooo expensive. My dream doesn’t even involve a purchase – just the opportunity to smell!

Ormonde Jayne’s Ormonde Woman has been on my “to buy” list for a long time. I like something mysterious, that start’s out one way and takes a winding road to ending up somewhere else. Plus it has a lot of my favorites; violet, vetiver, jasmine, amber…..but I have a lot of dreams and a lot of dream perfumes!

I think I just found my dream perfume: Nabucco’s Amytis. I’d like my dreams to smell of that. The version of Farnesiana that angels get to wear in heaven would please me as well.

I just googled Nabucco Amytis – wow, I have to say it sounds wonderful! The price makes it appropriate for dreamland too, unfortunately.
I’m with you when it comes to Farnesiana, although the terrestrial version is good enough for me, I think. 🙂
I sampled this at Campomarzio in Rome. Just in case you don’t want to break the bank, the excellent Italian perfume vendor Alla Violetta sells 1 ml samples for 10 euros.It’s an oil perfume and one milliliter will last for a long time.

Greetings from California– I’m a regular reader, but I’ve never commented before. You’ve chosen two very tantalizing scent giveaways to bring me out of the shadows! My “dream scent,” would probably be a combination of iris, violet, vanilla and/or amber. But, then, wait– I think that’s Attrape Coeure, which I adore. Maybe I just want that to be mine forever….
