Be My Valentine? – Special Edition Non-Monday Question

It is the weekend before Valentine’s Day, and therefore the perfect time for a special holiday edition of the Monday Question series. 🙂

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day, if at all?

What perfume will you be wearing?

What is the most romantic perfume in your stash, what makes it so?

My Answer:

In Austria, Valentine’s Day is not so big, or at least used not to be such a big deal, but business savvy florists took up this American custom and nowadays it is a big deal at least commercially.  I, personally, won’t be celebrating with anything special, I may or may not get flowers (depending on whether my husband reads this post ;)), but either way is fine. I am not set on that particular date for my romantic notions. That is not the case for birthdays and anniversaries, mind you, I love those. (Mentioned again in case my husband is reading. ;))

My most romantic perfume is wearing something my husband loves more than I do, as a kind of present to him. He lately expressed definite enthusiasm for Amouage Reflection Woman (review upcoming), so, despite this being not my favorite fragrance in the world, I will wear it and be very happy that he likes it.

What I consider most romantic is a perfume I feel my best in, that underscores my best side and makes me feel confident and beautiful. Puredistance I or Sous le Vent are hot candidates for that job.

It is a good thing, that Puredistance I is one of the few perfumes my husband and I are on the same page about.

I am looking forward to your romantic perfume ideas!

I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s although it seems it’s getting forced on us from every direction.
The most romantic perfume for me is Lyric by Amouage. That one actually fulfills several categories for me. 🙂 I don’t know if I’ll be wearing it on Monday, but I know I like to wear it for romantic occasions.

I’m single so won’t be celebrating, but will be wearing a rose perfume. Did you know that in armonatherapy you use damescena rose oil to feel loved? I don’t know how romantic Une Rose is with it’s thorny reputation, but I just see it as deep and complex. Maybe Ta’if is the most romantic perfume I’ve found so far. It’s all I can do to stop myself buying a full bottle because I don’t have the occasion to wear it. I love that huge burst of pepper and it just feels so decadent and mysterious.

Love the fact that your romantic perfumes are not the rose cliche but ones that you make you feel at your best. That’s great your husband likes Puredistance 1 too as you have such a connection with it.

Rose perfumes are the romantic classic and for a reason. I didn’t know the aromatherapy use, but it sounds perfect, what could be better than feeling loved? Maybe I will wear Une Rose after all, a rose has to have its thorns too, the perfect simile to love which is not just prettiness all the time either. 🙂

Normally, Valentines Day is not celebrated in the Howe house. Mr. Howe isn’t really a celebratory kind of guy, but this year is different! I have several discovery sets on my wishlist—the sort of thing that isn’t quite birthday or anniversary gift category, but a little more than a “just because” gift. I provided him with information for three sets, and I can’t wait to see which one I’m gifted! (I’ll report, don’t worry 😉 )

The idea of Romantic in perfume is much more complicated… but I think that I’m going to take a page from your book, B., and wear something that my husband loves. Looks like I get to wear Shalimar!

We’ll go to “our” Japanese restaurant. I’ll be wearing Like This, because that’s what the Valentine gave me for Xmas, although at that time he was being Santa 🙂 My most romantic perfume…that is a tough question…Possibly Quand Vient la Pluie.

My other half is not big on Valentine’s, though we are each guaranteed to receive a card from the cat at least. We are going out with my partner’s mother for dinner tomorrow and with friends for a meal on 15th, so I imagine we shan’t feel the need to go out on the Monday too. : – ) If my other half did like perfume and if it was a romantic occasion, I would probably opt for Ta’if too, or Guerlain’s Plus Que Jamais.

Even here, Valentine’s Day is getting bigger every year, which it never was before. So isn’t it just my rotten luck that Cupid has gone missing? For the first time in eleven years, I’m single for Valentine’s Day. And do you know, I’m not too unhappy about it. When anything is possible, possibilities can happen! 😉

But…for a romantic evening…somewhere Italian, somewhere in Italy, where they have romantic down to a fine art. I’d be wearing Ubar, because it is so unabashedly, hopelessly romantic, or else I’d wear Ambre Sultan, if I were in a slightly more dangerous mood, and I’d hope he wouldn’t be too gentle – later…;-)

With either of them – Ambre Sultan or Amouage Ubar, there would be a later…later. 😉

I am afraid that Monday will be no holiday, because I am traveling for work and so does my husband, albeit in different directions. 🙂 I am sure that we will make up for it later in the week. I am wearing my romantic scents all weekend long though, just because I feel like it–by Kilian Rose Oud, Love & Tears, Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose and Caron Narcisse Noir.

There is no V.Day in our household. And since I don’t celebrate it I always forget about it. Strangely enough, during the recent few years I accidentally spent the V.Day on bussiness trip off Vienna. I’ll never forget the V.Day in London 2 years ago : I booked a table for myself in a Michelin starred Indian Restaurant – and I was the only one solo among all those romantic couples….
Tomorrow I’m off for business again, but I’ll never make that mistake again (however, otherwise I don’t bother to go alone for dinner !)

We are not really into the hype of St Valentine’s Day . That said I will wear Une Rose and we have bought Holly a gift . Jeff has one for me and I bought him a bag of guitar picks, cleaners , strings , leads etc . We love each other all year .
