Monday Question: Do You Care About Other People´s Judgment?

When wearing perfume, do you care whether people around you like it or not?

Do you let your fragrance choice be influenced by comments others (not as perfume-savvy as you) make?

Do you avoid certain scents around certain people?

Do you wear perfume to please someone? Or is it your choice and your´s alone?

My answer:

I try to keep my “experimental” and blog-related fragrance wearing for during the week, when only my baby is here to complain (and he doesn´t, the good child!), since my husband doesn´t have a high tolerance for change. He has his favorites and I try to please him (and avoid him telling me I stink or smell like his grandmother, who must have had exceptional taste, by the way ;))

Other than my nearest and dearest, I couldn´t care less what others think about my perfumes, they don´t know what they are missing anyway. 🙂

How about you? I´m curious to read your answers!

Hmm, I take into consideration the fact that I’m mostly wearing my perfumes to work and that people might not be as happy about my choices as I am. But nobody ever said anything and I do try not to provoke with some more rebelious scents. At home though, I try everything I can get my hands on and my boyfriend keeps an open mind, even though he is sincere when he doesn’t like something. But I managed to hook him so he always sniffs everything I offer him. 🙂

Great questions! I will admit that as much as I wear perfume for myself, I care what others think of it. After all, perfume is not an entirely personal experience; it usually affects others around us. So, I try to be careful about wearing perfume in certain situations, when its excess or even an obvious presence might make others uncomfortable: on the plane, certain work interviews, dinner parties, etc.
I do not really wear scents that please others more than they delight me. The only person for whom I would do that is my husband, but his tastes are very similar to mine. 🙂
Have a nice start of the week!

Mostly I wear perfume for myself. During the week, when I’m in the office or when I’m testing new perfumes, I definitely want to keep it under the radar and not be too wafty. At home, I’ll wear it stronger. I would say that i choose perfume only for myself, and other opinions be damned, but I’ll admit that what my husband has somented favourably on tends to move to the front of the shelf. Most often, I’ll wear something my he likes, and try to avoid the ones he doesn’t, in the evening. He hates my new favourite, Bigarade Concentree, (he hates the smell of oranges) so I’ve been wearing that to work so it’s mostly worn off when I get home.

My husband hates Bigarade Concentree too! It is too bad, because I think it is very good, but him not liking it, takes away the joy of course, so I keep it for when he is away on business.
      Thanks for stopping by, Krista!

I like the phrase, “not be too wafty.”

When it comes to work, I run a small college bookstore, and my *one* staff member is budding into a perfumista as we speak—her current favorite is Le Labo Rose 31! She’s really patient with morning perfumes, and after-lunch perfumes too.

At home it’s a different game, but luckily for me, the hubby is in on it. Every new perfume in the house (and we’re in the hundreds now) is immediately on both his skin and mine: and then we talk about it. We do a side-by-side compare/contrast—almost everything smells different on him—talk about notes, houses, and perfumers.
Yeah, I’m the luckiest woman alive.

Since I have so little contact outside my tiny sphere, I guess I’d have to say that I don’t care what others think—however, if I’m going out on the town, or to a restaurant, I try “not to be too wafty”!
