Laurie Erickson makes an extraordinary number of perfumes to feel at home in. Cuddly, soft, cozy and warm. Evoking crackling fires, cashmere shawls, downy beds and sleep-ins. Conjuring brisk walks in the woods, endless fields of grass or late afternoon sunshine.
Sienna Musc is a prime example for what I mean – a perfume to relax into with a sigh, to feel cared for, pampered and simply good in. A woody and spicy musk that welcomes you into its caring arms, the minute you apply it.
Sienna Musc includes notes of musk, sandalwood, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, clove, mandarin, cedar and cypress. Released September 2008.
Opening with a warm bouquet of spices and a bit of sweet citrus, the wooden body of the perfume saunters in, relaxed, a smile on his lips. Cypress gives a fresh twist, cedar the necessary dryness and sandalwood adds a smooth creaminess that is further enhanced by musk, the star of the show that welds this perfume to your skin. On my skin cypress is very prominent and turns together with the spices into an almost pine-y note. It dares you not to breathe in deeply.
When we spend the weekend in “Our Little House on the Prairie” on a cold autumn weekend, this is how I smell. The freshness of the forest near the house, the dry wood we use for stoking the fire, fingers sticky with resins from handling the logs.
For a while now, SSS perfumes are, what I bring for the weekend. They fit in perfectly with my life in the countryside, making me happy, enhancing nature.
Other SSS reviews: To Dream :: Bois de Champagne :: Tabac Aurea
When you first started to review SSS I already decided that their lovely sample box(es) will be my Christmas present for friends living in the US…
Great idea! They are lucky guys! 🙂
I love this one too. I wore it yesterday, and it was so warm and relaxing. I really love Laurie’s line of fragrances. I wish that she would bring back Femme Jolie!
On another note, I want to say how much I enjoy your site. I don’t comment much, but I am a daily reader, and I often refer back to your reviews. Thanks for taking the time to write these reviews.
Femme Jolie is lovely, it reminds me a lot of Feminitė de Bois.
Thank you so much for your lovely words, I appreciate having you as a regular reader!

Darn it. I have a number of SSS samples, but I don’t think I have this one. Sounds so, so good and today would be perfect for it. It’s quite frosty here, but the sky is clear and beautiful — a great day for a winter walk.
Have fun at Little House this weekend, B!
I find myself always missing that one sample I want to try as well… Enjoy that beautiful day, Suzanne!
I just ordered a sample of this last night! And a good thing too, because if I hadn’t, I’d be kicking myself right now 🙂
Cozy scents are probably my favorites, and I’m really looking forward to this one!
You don’t know this one? I’m glad too that you ordered it. 🙂 I always think of you as the ultimate SSS wearer, the perfumes seem to be made for you.
I’m a big fan of Laurie’s creations, and Sienna Musk was one of my early favorites. On my skin, it’s all about the cypress, too. Reminds me of my aunt’s house, which was panelled in cypress.
That house must have smelled wonderful, Julie.
It’s not a perfumey smell, by any means. It’s just a woody smell that doesn’t smell like any other woody smell. Very distinctive, and you don’t find that panelling much anymore. It’s strongly attached to my memories of happy time spent there. Our house next door was panelled in magnolia, which is beautiful, but doesn’t have that distinctive smell.
oh I’m so jealous!! every year at this time, I re-read all the Little House books – I’m currently at “On the Shores of Silver Lake” – Enjoy, and I must try this scent!
That sounds like a lovely tradition. I should read those books again…
That note list does sound enticing! I love the way you describe how this perfume conjures up so many different aspects of your Little House on the Prairie and it’s country setting. Laurie is very clever in the way her scents so often seem to evoke the outdoors but still retain that cosy feel.
I have a hankering for a shawl… 🙂
Exactly! Laurie’s perfumes perfectly evoke places and the feelings associated with them for me. So good to have that handy in a bottle. 🙂
A woody, spicy musk sounds very enticing. When I start sampling the SSS line, this one and Tabac are the first two I plan to try.
You should wish for (or treat yourself to) one of Laurie’s samplepacks. They are lovely and great value.
So glad you like this one! I love the lightness that Laurie managed to achieve with this one. The list of notes make it seem like it should be in-your-face, but this is anything but.
a:)
I was not enticed by the notes list at all, but as you say, it is light and highly wearable.
