Fall is here! The weather turns decidedly more unpredictable, rain, wind and cooler temperatures take over. School starts again and there is whiff of new beginnings in the air.
Fall for me is always a time to start over, a beginning of a new phase. We perfume people tend to mark such changes in mood with a new perfume. A new purchase or a rotation in our daily fragrant wardrobe is in order.
What is your fall perfume?
Which perfume marks the start of a new phase for you?
What is your going back to school scent (whether you actually go back to school or your kids do or you just remember the feeling)?
My Answer:
When a new school year begins, it is usually the time for me to rotate my daily perfume collection. The summer scents go into hibernation in my closet and the cosy fall scents are allowed their time on the glass tray.
I look forward to take out Chanel Bois des Iles, Cuir de Lancome, Hermès L’Ambre des Merveilles, Nabucco Amytis and maybe a Guerlain or two (like Cuir Beluga or Angélique Noire).
As for something new? I am contemplating to finally get a travel set of Hermès Brin de Réglisse and Paprika Brasil (prodded by Michael’s lovely review). If you click the link to my Brin de Réglisse review you might wonder if I finally lost it, but I did a complete 180 on this perfume and I’m so glad about it. Time to write a new review I guess… 🙂
I’m looking forward to hearing all about your new fall acquisitions, wishlists or “shop your own collecton” scents!
Perfect timing for this post! This weather is absurd and depressing. I pulled out Cuir Beluga after you mentioned it. I look forward to wearing Tihota, SDV, Amouage Fate Woman and many other warming perfumes. I suppose it is soon time to rotate some perfumes. Summer is over. 😦
I’m afraid you are right. The first day of school for Paul today was awful in this weather… 😦
For me the beginning of a new phase already started in July and it was Mito which marked it. I guess I’ll keep on wearing it together with Vétiver Tonka, Fils de Dieu and Trayee. Brin de Réglisse is my favorite scent for evenings at home and I consider putting Cuir Beluga on my wishlist and Paprika Brasil on top of my to try list. Hm, but Mito Voile d’Extrait would be perfect for fall as well…but since I am going on my summer (!) vacation on Friday, I don’t want to think too much of fall right now.
Have a nice week!
Have a wonderful vacation, Anka! Where are you going?
Mito is a great perfume for new starts.
Thanks! We are spending a week at the Baltic Sea (Usedom) and I’ll take all my vero profumo samples with me – and a lot of good books.
I just picked up Raghba yesterday afternoon and it seemed perfect to wear today. Recently I’ve been wearing Esteban Oriental Spice, Mona di Orio Vanille, Coven, Fate, Maai and then a slew of brighter fragrances for when I’m out and about in the intense heat that we still have here in Kuwait. These include Bois 1920 Agrumi and Come LAmour, Kiki, Bronze Goddess, Acqua di Sale, Acqua e Zucchero and Confetto :).
I guess there is never a really cold and rainy day in Kuwait, is there? 🙂
It’s spring where I live! Oh the blossoms! So beautiful. I passed a magnolia in full bloom today and had a good long sniff of its lovely, lemony flowers. Don’t laugh (okay, you can 🙂 ) my favorite fragrance for early spring is EL’s Pleasures. I love its peppery greenery and its suggestion of new shoots pushing out of cool earth. And Chamade of course. I get to compare the one hyacinth blossom I have in a pot with Guerlain’s tribute. Lovely! Hope all is well with you.
I know, Annemarie, I wanted to mention the spring in the southern hemsiphere, but then forgot – sorry!
I’m glad you are enjoying the blooming nature. The magnolia tree sounds heavenly.
All is fine here, I hope with you too! Did you take the new job?
Yes indeed, I did, and its turned out very well. I’m sure wearing Hermes to the interview was the clincher. 🙂 Osmanthe Yunnan that was. Soon it will be warm enough to wear it again.
I’m sure it was the Hermès! 🙂
Congratulations!!!
It is ‘back to school’ for me very soon, so I’ll be digging into my cupboard for one or two woody fragrances for comfort and strength! Tea for Two is a favourite every autumn, and Coromandel. My Mistral Patchouli will easily make the transition from summer to autumn. I’m meant to be on a buying embargo, but am considering a tiny bottle of Poivre 23 as a start of term present…15ml doesn’t really count…
Of course it doesn’t, that is practically a sample! 😉
Poivre 23 is a beauty, I love it!
It’s been autumn here since the beginning of August pretty much, and I have been wearing all manner of cosy perfumes as a result. Today it is Aomassai, but that is more because I am trying to consciously finish up a bunch of little decants that are almost empty. So tomorrow I could even be sporting the dregs of Ajne Printemps! But I am still more drawn to things like Diptyque Volutes and Meharees, also my new bottle of Myrrhe Ardente. 😉
Ah the lovely English weather! 🙂
Great buy, your Goutal lot!
Ah, how I wish that I were young and going back to school, but now as a senior citizen I just watch as my little town fills with college students. Vol de Nuit would be the fragrance for me. It has just the right amount of freshness without smelling like a summer fragrance. I keep hoping that Guerlain can find a way to ease off the reformulation, maybe another Revolution and perfume lovers could take to the barricades…
Ha, yes! Off with their heads! 😉
Vol de Nuit is always perfect.
I’m looking forward to Cuir d’Ange, the new Hermessence ❤
Oh me too!
I don’t have my back to school perfume – it’s time to buy a new decant of Malle’s Therese. I start teaching Wednesday, so my back to school perfume will be a little late – but to me Therese is perfect: so beautiful, floral but not overpowering, with a layer of clear coolness. It’s still punishingly hot and humid here. After a summer in dry desert heat, the humidity has me gasping.
You describe Thérèse so beautifully!
Oh that’s a very tricky question considering I’ve already been wearing ark, woody fragrances all summer. – mona di orio violet fumee, dior mitzah, lartisan al oudh. I think I’ll continue with that 🙂
Never change a winning team! 🙂
CHYPRES! That’s what it’s about for me these days; SL La Myrrhe, Amouage Jubilation 25 are all on my top list, but Chanel Bois des Iles, Mona di Orio Vanille and Parfumerie Generale Intrigant Patchouli are also coming out of hibernation. Along with Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar. It’s nice and comforting to smell like a cake, especially on Sundays.
Chypres are wonderful when the temperatures drop. Enjoy!
I just pulled out Laura Mercier Minuit Enchante, Vol de Nuit and Gourmand Coquin.
I really want to purchase Orchidee Vanille for my “start of a new phase”. Even though the weather in Florida is still hot, I like to act like there are seasons here!
Orchidee Vanille is such a lovely perfume for fall! I say go for it!
This post got me thinking, “she’s right! I need something new to signify the start of a new season (even if the weather has not changed in a consistent manner)….I should buy something new!” So I finally got Chergui off my to-buy list, where it has been languishing for way too long 🙂 Otherwise, I will probably break out Vetiver Tonka and Shalimar!
Excellent! Great buy, nemo!
I’m glad I was right (as I always am!) 😉
I am in tropical heat right now but would pick no22 for the back to school feeling of fall. It is one of my favorite times of the year for that feeling of something new to start. Actually it marks a more true new beginning to me than 1st of January were I usually feel a bit lost and not sure were the new energy should come from and for what purpose anyway…
Great pick, cybele! i completely agree, for me January 1st is usually reserved for low-key depression. 🙂
I’ve just been away and haven’t had time to purchase a new perfume – I was switching between Calvin Klein and Diesel, but going to try opt for something new – so love your selection
Have fun finding a new perfume love, Alex!
