In Search Of Hidden Beauty – Summer Snapshots

I’m only checking in quickly again today. I’m happily rediscovering my perfume collection, wafting copious amounts of musky fumes these days and sweltering in the heat.

Here are just a few pictures I took recently…

How are you doing? What perfume are you wearing when it is really, really hot outside?

Have a great week!

beauteous. I love Vienna – it’s such a picturesque place, and nowhere else can people guess your nationality so well which is funny (I was constantly addressed in more or less broken Russian, despite the fact that my German is absolutely “plus quam perfect”)

as for perfume – I have been taking my own pill šŸ˜‰ and wearing coconut oil on the body (it has a little SPF, naturally). couldn’t bear any actual eau!

  2. Alice says:

such beautiful photos…. I so want to visit Vienna again! As to perfumes, I’ve been taking advantage of the heat to enjoy some ‘aromatics’ (Cristalle, SJP Lovely, samples of MFK absolue pour le matin and FM bigarade)…and by contrast enjoying my new Ambre Cerulean, and considering buying it a friend (Vohina?). I have only one huitieme art perfume, and I hate that, it looks so lonely… must get it a friend (any excuse…)

    • Olfactoria says:

I totally understand the friend theory. One bottle is lonely and that is plain cruel. šŸ™‚
Vohina is very pretty. I also like Myrrhiade from the line.

  3. Lady Jane Grey says:

B, they should pay you for advertising Vienna šŸ™‚
The answer is : Granville or Blenheim…

  4. Tara says:

Lady Jane Grey is right, I so want to visit! A photo of your boys in their matching outfits always brightens my day.

I’ve heard you are experiencing sweltering temperatures at the moment. We are heading for 32 degrees tomorrow and I think I’ll wear L’Heure Brilliante. Green fragrances are refreshing in the heat.

    • Olfactoria says:

Oh, yes, please come visit! Preferably in more moderate temperatures though. We are getting 39-40 degrees for the second weekend in a row. Uff!

Thanks for your compliment for the boys, they insist on dressing alike and I find it practical too, they are much easier to spot in a crowd. šŸ˜‰

Green in the heat is ideal!

      • Tara says:

I definitely will come one day. I didn’t know temps were quite that high at the moment, that’s unbearable. Poor you. I also didn’t know the boys requested to dress alike, that is just so sweet. Hopefully they’ll always be that close.

  5. I’m wearing Encre Noire… The pronounced dry vetiver acts very refreshingly in the tropical Greek heat. It has some mint hues… black minimalistic and Doric! No frou frou and syrupy stickiness! It’s a festival of base notes, core notes, like a concert of bass guitars and contrabasses… Masculine, but very pleasurable and contemplative, providing the perfect shade for me right now.
    Lovely pictures B.! As always!

Your boys are so adorable. Enjoy your vacation!!!!!

  8. ringthing says:

I always enjoy your beautiful pictures, Birgit. Do you like hot weather? I can’t remember; either way, I hope you are staying comfortable. Here, it is cool and rainy, very unusual, and I am wearing some favorites: Cuir de Lancome, CdG 2, Histoire Mauboussin, Shalimar edt to sleep in.

  9. Annina says:

Oh how I would love to visit Vienna! Europe has such old-world beauty that our young country just does not – if I may be so bold. Our beauty is just different, with fewer layers of history. I adore seeing pictures of your hometown, Birgit. And I know we all love to see pictures of your adorable boys!

To answer your question, I have been wearing PdN Soleil, SL Fleurs de Oranger, EL White Linen, SSS Jour Ensolielle, No.5. We are having strange weather, about 20 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year. Also gray and rainy. Usually, it’s very hot and humid – unbearable. But it has been so lovely, that we’re able to open up the house. We will apparently be having this weather for at least another week. My choice of perfumes still reflects hot summer, however.

  10. Beautiful pictures- every one. šŸ™‚

  11. Those boys look ready for mischief Birgit.
It’s beautiful 23 degrees celcius winter days here in Sydney and I’m wafting Milano Caffe by La Via del Profumo. It is really good. Coffee, chocolate, smoke and woods with a bunch of back up players. MMMMM

  12. Undina says:

    Beautiful photos!

Luckily, it’s not hot here but for the summer weather I go for Jo Malone’s perfumes.

  13. Eva S says:

I’m visiting my family in Gotland and our weather seems to be much the same as winter weather in Sydney right now šŸ™‚
At the moment wearing my summer favorite Lys Soleia and new favorites De Profundis and Bois des Iles.

  14. Terrific photos! The one of the boys is wonderful. Looks like they are having a fun summer.

At the moment, ELd’O Archives 69 and Ɣ de LancĆ“me are getting lots of wear. I did pull out the Anima Dulcis today and it was gorgeous in the heat. All very different from each other, but that’s kind of how I’m feeling at the moment.

  15. dgambas says:

I was waiting for hot days just to try Mohur on 30+. I’ve had feeling it would be magical. And it is! I don’t wear anything else this summer. Totally different approach of mine than in previous years.

  16. Nana says:

great pix B, thanks…hope that you’re enjoying your vacation.
Been longing for summer and yesterday I mixed my winter SL Un bois vanilla with my favourite summer fragrance Philosykos by Diptyque…crazy choice but I can’t take the winter months anymore even though they are milder than usual.
my other summer fragrances are Hermessence Vetiver Tonka, Hermes Concentree de pamplemousse rose and am still saving to acquire the FM Bigarade.

    take care.

  17. Maureen says:

Your pix of Vienna are just so beautiful, I wish I could visit there, it almost replaces my longing for a Tuscany vacation. It is rainy today in suburban Philadelphia, but it has been a hot summer. I usually wear O de Lancome or EL Pure White Linen Light Breeze in the heat…also love Chanel # 19 Poudre in spring & summer, but not in the extreme heat. I am wearing It today. When I am at the Jersey shore I like EL Bronze Goddess…mixes well with sunscreen, which I have to wear, as I am fair & have had bout with skin cancer. Your boys are darling.

    • Olfactoria says:

Thanks for sharing your summer scents, Maureen!
I hope you are alright after the skin cancer, how frightening that must have been!
Maybe a Vienna visit is in the cards one day… šŸ™‚

  18. Laurels says:

Thirdman Eau Nomade, although it has been unseasonably cool here, so I’ve also been sampling ambers/orientals for fall. The last time my nephew and my cousin’s kids came over to swim, the temperature dropped more than ten degrees and it rained on us, which is very un-California-like weather.

  19. Vanessa says:

I remember sweltering weather in Vienna – two years ago, wow! I think the heat is cooling down here now – it rained every day on my recent break down south 😦 – but I do like warm weather as a rule. Have been wearing all sorts, from Lumiere Blanche and Bombay Bling to Eau Premiere and Rose d’Ete.

  20. Melinda says:

    Beautiful pictures!

  21. Dovey says:

    Hi Birgit,
I love how calm, classic, and real your montage is! My recent summer perfume love is Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’Eau šŸ™‚
