This Is What I’m Doing Today…

Today is May Day, which means no work, no school today in Austria.

So in an ideal scenario, this is what I would like to do today:

What is your day going to be like?

In any case, have a good one! xo

  1. Undina says:

Every time you find the best cat pictures! 🙂

May 1st isn’t a holiday so for me it will be just a regular day. And I can’t even sleep in since I have a meeting in the morning! Oh well… I’ll keep coming back to take a look at that kitten.

    • Olfactoria says:

You do the best cat pictures, because you have the best cat at home! But lacking that, I do my best. 😉

Have a great day, despite work, dear Undina!

  2. Tatiana says:

For most of the day, I am sure my black cat will be doing the same as the one in your photo. I’ll be doing my usual Wednesday routine but with an air of anticipation, as my daughter will be flying home after finishing her sophomore year. Enjoy your day off. I hope you and your family have a restful day.

  3. haefennasiel says:

My cat sleeps like this! XD
It’s also a holiday here, but the weather is horrendously hot and humid. Even regular breathing can cause one to perspire! 😛

  4. Sandra says:

Have a wonderfully relaxing day dear B! We are going bug and blossoming tree hunting. Yes, LO is into bugs now – my nightmare.

    • Olfactoria says:

Argh, bugs! Thankfully my boys don’t seem very inclined towards them. But they save Mom now and again from an attacking spider. 😉
      Enjoy your day!

  5. I’m flying to London today to do some work there on Thursday and Friday. Don’t have much leisure time, but I might try to go to Harrods to sniff some Roja Dove perfumes. I tried to find it this summer, but failed miserably, so I want to give it another shot.

    • Dear Martin
Do you mean you failed to find the Haute Perfumerie?
It is somewhat easily missed until you know where exactly it is.
      Yours ever
      The Perfumed Dandy

      • Alice says:

I live in London but have to confess I have never been…it sounds somewhat daunting, as if you might have to sit a short test before being allowed in!

        • Tara says:

Hi Alice, it’s not like that, honestly, do go. The hardest bit is finding it. The trick is to go to the entrance on the left side of the Harrods building and use the escalators there which go all the way up to the 5th floor and then walk through Urban Retreat to get to the Haute Parfumerie.

    • Olfactoria says:

      Have fun in London!
As the others said, it takes a bit of sleuthing to find the Haute Parfumerie, but it is sooooo worth it! Let us know whether you made it this time, please!

      • The saddening answer is that I didn’t. 😦 There just wasn’t time enough to squeeze in that visit. Soon I’ll book a ticket with the sole purpose on visiting the store.

        • Olfactoria says:

          Aww, too bad. 😦
But it’s better to go there when you have the time to really enjoy it. Better not to go at all, than having to hasten through in just a few minutes.

  6. Alice says:

A regular work day for me, but the sun’s streaming in and I have a lovely view of trees..so there will be plenty of day dreaming of the weekend (which may involve some sailing!)

  7. Ines says:

It’s a lovely day here and I think, except for doing little chores around the house, I’ll be lazy as I can the whole day.
That is my way of celebrating the work holiday. 😉

  8. Melinda says:

It’s a public holiday in my country so I will be reading and relaxing 🙂

  9. lucasai says:

It’s a Labour Day in Poland so school are closed and people have a day off from work as well.
I wanted to go cycling but it’s cold and cloudy, can start raining any moment.

  10. brie says:

My day today will be the chaos it has been for the past four weeks…end of year meetings and therapy sessions at work and rushing home to take one of my own to soccer practice….everyday in the spring is go! go! go! So needless to say I would LOVE to be that little brown kitten right now! How do you ever find such perfect pictures, B?

  11. poodle says:

It’s not a day off here. I could use one though. I envy that kitten.

  12. Tora says:

No day off here either, but I hope that all of you who are off, have a lovely relaxing time! That kitty just cracks me up, so cute!

  13. Dearest Brigit
Here on The Sceptr’d Isle we have our May Day holiday held over until next Monday.
I hope to be practicing my best feline recline by the sea once more as I shall be on the coast again.
    Yours ever
    The Perfumed Dandy

  14. Tara says:

As The Dandy says, we get the first (and last) Monday off in May, so I shall be assuming the kitty position then.

Are you wearing lily of the valley today, B? I’m wearing Champaca as per usual for this spring.

    • Olfactoria says:

I’ve been wearing Gardenia (Jo Loves) today, I forgot to go looking for my Diorissimo decant or Guerlain Muguet sample, well, still time for that tonight. 🙂

Good that you get to assume the kitty position on Monday.

  15. Suzanne says:

You really do find the most adorable kitten pictures. The weather here today is exquisite, so all of my plans will be outdoor ones. Time to mow the yard and go to the garden center for flowers!

  16. ringthing says:

Enjoy your day, Birgit. It’s a beautiful day here but I have no special plans beyond a walk in the sunshine. Love the kitty pic, thanks for the morning laugh. 🙂

  17. Lauren says:

I am trying to find a new scent and am wondering if you could help me. I am looking a fragrance something ethereal and mysterious–something that would kind of remind you of the moon. Slightly melancholic but still beautiful would be ideal.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    • Olfactoria says:

      Hi Lauren,

      that is a beautiful idea!
Melancholy, but beautiful – that means Guerlain Aprés l’Ondée for me. A similar perfume, but more modern and even more ethereal is Frederic Malle L’Eau d’Hiver. For me it has a certain “lunar” quality to it.
Another option that might appeal to you is Olfactive Studio Lumiére Blanche.
Let me know if any of these interest you or even worked for you. (Reviews of these three can be found here on my blog, if you want to get a better idea about them.)

      • Lauren says:

        Birgit,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.

I have not yet had the opportunity to try any of the fragrances you mentioned, but I will be moving to NYC in the next few days, so hopefully I will be able to sample all the perfumes I have always wanted to! I have heard so much about the beauty of Aprés l’Ondée, but I have never been able to find it. Do you have any idea where I might be able to test it in NYC? I read your lovely reviews of all three perfumes and look forward to smelling them all. I have to say, though, I was so excited that you mentioned L’Eau d’Hiver. Again, this is one I’ve never had the chance to sample, but I remember reading your review on it a few weeks ago, and think “hmm..that sounds interesting..” not only because it sounds like a beautiful scent, but because I have very pale skin and dark hair and I never leave my house without red lipstick :). It may end up being the perfect fit!

Thanks again for your help! I look forward to testing them all–I will let you know how they work out!!

        Lauren

        • Olfactoria says:

You’ll be living in NY, how great! I hope your move goes well.
You’ll have all the perfumes at your fingertips then. Aprés L’Ondée is hard to find in the US, I’ve heard, but it should be available for example at the Guerlain counter at Bergdorf’s.
How interesting that you are a L’Eau d’Hiver type also physically – it’s fated that you should get together then. 😉
I look forward to hearing what you think of them!

  18. Vanessa says:

I briefed up for a new job starting tomorrow!

  19. Hope you’ve enjoyed your May Day, Birgit. I have today off of work, so I am resting up for school tomorrow and Friday. I’m reading and planning out my next few blog posts.
