The fabulous Portia of Australian Perfume Junkies is on the first part of her world tour 2013 and visited Vienna together with her lovely boyfriend Jin.
It was such a pleasure to meet the two of them!
Tomorrow Portia, Jin and I will go for a perfume tour through Vienna with my friend Sandra. I’ll let you know how it goes…
Did you ever meet online perfume friends in the flesh? How was it? Who would you like to meet in person?
Have a happy time. I would like to meet with you Birgit (we don’t live so far from each other) and Undina. When I’ll be in London later this year I will probably meet with Freddie and The Candy Perfume Boy (if possible)
And I would love to meet some of my readers.
Poland and Austria are not so far indeed. Have fun in London this spring!
Hey Birgit!! I got to meet with Portia and Jin yetserday too ………
and it was a blaaaaasssst!
Maybe you want some cookies dropped by next time I am in Vienna??
Lg
Val the Armadillos Cookie Queen. π
Hi Val,
I heard all about you and your cookies!
Good to know there is another Perfumista here in Austria! π
I don’t know if I can call myself a perfumista. Yet. But I am working on it. π
Good for you! Enjoy the ride! π
Can’t wait for tomorrow. Jin and I have talked of little else all day.
Thank you Birgit,
Portia xx
So did Michael and I. π
See you soon!
I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting online perfume friends in the flesh, I just have to live vicariously through you!
And Portia, it’s clear from the photo that you look dashing no matter what style you wear- it’s almost unfair π
It’s such a great benefit of blogging – meeting total strangers who feel like old friends. It’s weird and wonderful.
My thoughts exactly. And if teleportation was real, I would be whisking my way across the US and Atlantic. But alas, for now I can live vicariously through the travels of Portia and Jin.
Ah, teleportation, I dream of that too!
π
I had the most wonderful weekend when Vanessa/Bonkers came to visit in the Spring of 2011. (wow it was that long ago already?) I need to get traveling!
The two of you together – I would have loved to join you (and the chicken!!!).
Get travelling, Carol! π
My experience with meeting fellow perfumistas in the flesh has been fantastic. Love the photo of you and Portia! Here’s wishing the four of you a great day tomorrow.
Thanks, Suz! I’m sure the two of us will meet eventually, it’s in the stars… π
Great photo, I’m there in spirit! Bisous
Thank you! xoxo
I had the best time meeting perfume friends in real life! π
I sincerely hope at some time I get to meet everyone I met in the virtual perfume world.
Have fun tomorrow! π
Yep, starting with me soon! π
π
I haven’t met any perfume friends yet. There are quite a few I’d like to meet. Your perfume tour is probably going to be a blast. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
It’s a truly lovely experience meeting like-minded people.
I’ll report back about the sniffing tour! π
Big Fun.
Indeed. π
IF I can ever tear myself away from work and family I do plan on meeting up with baconbiscuit212 as we both reside in the same state and I am only a two hour train ride away from her! we would get into much trouble perfume shopping in NYC π !! I would not mind visiting you in Vienna as well! I would also LOVE to meet my all time favorite perfumer, Laurie Erickson! Finally, my kindred spirit in dance and perfume (and the younger brother I always wish I had), Neil.
Oh! I forgot…Michelyn from CaFleureBon…would love to meet her in person as well!
She’s a force of nature, I’m sure!
Indeed! Although her beauty, elegance and intelligence might be a bit intimidating for me if we were to meet in person π !!
Ah, I’d love to meet Daisy as well! She’s the nicest person.
I hope you two get together eventually and take NY! π
Heck yeah! Brie and I would be a dangerous force together! Come to me, Brie π I live where the perfumes are π
I live in the middle of nowhere and would love to meet ANYONE in my online perfume world. A trip to Europe would be a lovely place to meet perfume friends. Have a great time and tell us all about it!
That’s the beauty of the online community though – it populates the middle of nowhere with like-minded people. π
Meeting virtual perfume friends in the real world is my absolute favourite thing. You’re so right about meeting people for the first time who feel like old friends because of our shared love. It’s something I’m very grateful for.
Can’t wait to read about your shopping trip!
It is something to be grateful for indeed. I think you were the first perfume friend I ever met in person, my dear Tara, and I’m so glad about that! xo
Hello, Birgit! How strange! Yesterday I’ve just met in flesh a fellow perfumista that resides in Dublin, same as I !It was surreal and nice at the same time! I’d love to meet you, Undina , Suzanne,Freddie, Neil Morris, Thomas! Maybe we should organize an worldwide get together or at least an European one!imagine a Perfumistas’ Congress!
Hi Ana! Hope Birgit doesn’t mind me butting in, but when I read this I just had to say hello! If I should ever have the pleasure of visiting Ireland, how about I pick you up in Dublin – you can show me the sights and then we can drive across to Dingle and go to the Other Voices festival? π Dingle’s Church of St. James holds a hallowed place on my list of travel fantasies. (Of course, there are more places on my travel list than I will ever get to in my lifetime, so have no fears about me showing up on your emerald isle unannounced!) π
Ha , Suzanne, that would be magnificent! By the sounds of it you know more about Ireland than I ever will! Dingle?Other Voices Festival?I think I will let you be the guide! And you can drop on this 1000’s shades of green island and in my world anytime, even unannounced!
That’s great, Ana! I’m glad you found a fellow perfume-fiend close to home!
And a perfume congress: that’s something to think about… π
If you happen to visit SF Bay Area – just wistle! π
What fun! I hope you have a blast!
I’m sure we will! (I’m at the cafΓ© where we will meet in half an hour already tapping away. π )
I love the idea of meeting fellow perfume freaks (don’t you and Portia look somewhat alike by the way?)
Umm, I’d say no, Portia and don’t look very much alike. But since you are probably thinking the woman on the right is Portia, I have to agree. π
To clarify: I am the woman in the photo. The dashing man is Portia (aka Paul) from APJ. We are used to see his alter ego, Portia, a very glamorous lady. In this picture he is in his everyday/travel look. π
Portiatoria and Olfactia.
Ha! π
I was going to say: meeting a perfumista is one thing, one’s doppelgΓ€nger quite another!
π
So come to NYC and Daisy and I will take you perfume shopping!
I’ll do that hopefully soon!!! π
Would VERY MUCH love to, if I arrive back alive from Madagascar and can save up enough yen!
That would be amazing! I already know where I want to take you and what we’re going to eat and drink. Pretzel croissants! Pork Buns with quick cucumber pickles! Atlantic oysters with yuzu jelly! Coal-oven pizza with house-made meatballs and ricotta! Cocktails on tap! Korean fried-chicken! Craft beer!
Oh, and yes, we’ll smell fabulous too π
OMG, I should go on a diet right now, so I can withstand the calorie-onslaught you are planning! π
I’d absolutely looooooove all of that!
I just let my husband read your comment and he is already busy trying to work out a possible date for us to go to NY this year. I think your mention of pork is what propelled him into action. π
Stretchy trousers are in order. Or leggings. I would recommend leggings π
Should I also dangle thrice-cooked bacon? Kung Pao pastrami? Hudson Valley smoked duck? Shanghainese soup dumplings? Truffle-stuffed roasted chicken? Lobster rolls, Concord grape macarons, tres leches cake, deep-fried magarita pizza, and cereal milk milkshakes to that list π
Stop it!!! I won’t be able to sleep tonight, tossing and turning and chasing visions of thrice-cooked bacon!
A trip to NY is inevitable and so are the leggings. π
Yay! Looking forward to seeing you on these kick-butt shores π
Daisy you are just what I need to get some meat on my 93lb body! Wouldn’t it be fun gorging and spraying ourselves silly with Neil and Birgit?
That would be awesome!
Seriously? 93lb? Girl, we’re gonna’ get you some buttah!
What fun for you both. I hope to meet Portia when she comes to San Francisco. I am in April going to Los Angeles and meeting Miss Vickie Lester of Beguiling Hollywood blog fame. I am very excited about that (check out her wonderful blog) And of course it would be my great honor to meet the lovely Miss Birgit of Vienna.
It would be my honor as well to meet you!
I will check out this blog…
The closest perfumista to me would be Dionne. I would love to meet her one day. She is a beautiful person inside and out and one of the kindest souls I have encountered. If I ever step foot outside of Canada, there are so many people I would like to meet.
Dionne is so lovely, I hope you two get to meet eventually!
π
Awww shucks, thanks Melis! Basically, what she said. π Melis lives only 3 hours away from me (considered a very small distance here in Canada), and it was a delight to find another perfumista so close. I’d love to attend a Sniffa in NY, and Australia’s on my bucket list too, so I’d definitely pop in to see Portia.
So Europe is not on your travel list? π¦
Maybe we’ll meet in NY one day…
Europe is DEFINITELY on my travel list. π
It is so lovely meeting perfume people in real life and such a pleasure! It does lead to some odd moments though – I remember the first time I met the gorgeous Candy Perfume Boy and realising that while I knew what he had bought his Grandma for her birthday at that precise second I wasnβt sure I knew his real nameβ¦ perfume people just tend to be so kind, so welcoming and so interesting!
I missed Katie Puckrick speaking in London last year, so I think she is at the top of my βwould love to meetβ list.
I’d love to meet Katie Puckrik too, but I would be very intimidated… she is fabulous!
I met you! At home and away! In hot weather and cold! With and without children and The Husband. It was a hoot, what can I say…? I have been very lucky to meet so many online perfume friends and bloggers in the past, both in the USA (Bloody Frida was a highlight : – ) ) and in Europe (most recently Boisdejasmin). Too many to mention – the Perfume Lovers London group also helps “bump up numbers” of fumehead encounters – I can recommend it!
And there are just as many I would like to meet, including three in Denmark alone(!) (Marie, Asali, Tarleisio), Ines in Croatia (have had several near misses : – ( ), Nina Hutterer in Germany and a whole clatter in the USA and Canada. I mean seriously, A CLATTER. You could just go to Toronto or Portland, Oregon and spend days meeting people you know virtually! If I won the lottery, I would go on a road trip, joining the dots between perfumistas, from coast to coast. I absolutely would.
You look quite like Portia de Rossi come to think of it. I think you should take Ozzy Portia’s name and he could pick a new one while he is over with you…Sigmund has quite a ring to it?
You surely hold the title of best-connected Perfumista ever, you met so many of us indeed. Although I’ve had my share of Vanessa-meet-ups, I want more!! And soon!!! π
I’d like that very much too! Montaigne said: “Happiness is the ability to enjoy repetition”. You make it easy, in all weathers. : – )
I wanna meet both of you guys!!!!!! π
Me too, Arline! π
I’ve met some fellow perfume lovers here in Dubai but, would love to meet more. It is just great to have my mom to enjoy this with so we can avoid boring other people with our incessant fragrance talk :-). If anyone is ever coming to Dubai I am always happy to give tips on the best shopping and some day I will write the Dubai perfume shopping guide….I am working on it!
That is good to hear, I’m looking forward to your shopping guide post!
I haven’t had the privilege of meeting any perfumista friends yet, but I have been lucky enough to meet several food blogger friends. Each time, there has been this kind of instant rapport and this feeling that you have known eachother for a long time even if you are meeting for the first time! A friend of mine came in over the summer. It was the first time we had met in person and we spent hours at breakfast/lunch laughing and eating. At one point she mentioned something and I said, “I didn’t know that!” She responded, “Yes you did! It was on my blog!”
So funny and so true π So to all you perfume lovers: Come visit me in NYC!
It is like reuniting with long-lost friends. I’ve never had such instantly easy-going and relaxed relationships than with Perfumistas. Glad you had the same experience, Daisy!
Very true! There is something about getting to know someone through their writing that creates wonderful bonds!
You both look great! (Birgit, I love your scarf!)
So far I’ve met just two of my blogo-friends – Natalie (Another Perfume Blog) and Judith (the unseen censer). It was great and I hope to be able to meet many more, hopefully really soon π
(Thanks, I love the scarf too!)
I hope your planned Europe trip will give us the opportunity to meet as well, it would be great!
I haven’t met any other perfumistas – yet – although I have drawn heavily on their shopping experiences in Lytham and London. Shopping guiders, you have a Lot to answer for….I should have been spending money on my leaking roof. When I have a moment (hopefully, sometime in 2013) I’d love to arrange a meetup for perfume lovers in Scotland. (Fraser’s perfumery in Glasgow anyone? Or John Lewis’ perfumery in Edinburgh to meet the fabulous Donna, a wonderful person and perfume guide?
That sounds great! I hope there will be a lot of Scottish perfumistas you can meet. Have fun!
