The Joy Of Living With Fragrance

A member of the Facebook Frangrance Friends group posted this video recently (Thank you, Joe!) and I wanted to share it as well. Enjoy!

Lovely! Isn’t it interesting that the application and usage tips are quasi unchanged then and now?

I find the title of this video to be very true: it is indeed a great joy to have so many fine fragrances available. Just imagine our lives without them.

  2. arline says:

After watching that, I had to spray myself!!!!!!

I also want to spray my house, and burn candles!!!!!

Scent does bring me a lot of joy!!!

The lady in the film must have an impressive sillage if people note her perfume the moment she walks into a room 🙂 It seems the men were all left out from the joy of living with fragrance except vicariously, poor things!
An unrelated question, do you (or anyone reading this) have any experience of ordering from the Posh Peasant? I’ve never ordered from there, or the Perfume Court, but I’m temted to try to get hold of some Guerlain samples (Sweden being a Guerlain wasteland and all).

    • Amy says:

      Hi Eva,
I’ve ordered from both the Posh Peasant and Perfume Court. Abigail at the Peasant is very nice and pretty quick with filling her orders. I’ve had good experiences with the Perfumed Court as well. You may want to sign up for their newsletters/email lists, as they offer special sales quite often.

    • Olfactoria says:

Amy said it all, basically. I also highly recommend signing up for the newsletter of both stores to be in the know about sales or reduced shipping costs.

Eva, Suze R on the Scent Splits website has a lot of Guerlains she can make samples of and she’s in Europe (UK).

    Loved it! Thanks, B.

Wow, I think that film covered just above every base you could cover in regard to enjoying fragrance. Very charming — and the part about Grasse made me so want to go there. I’m sure it’s quite changed, though, since those days.

I enjoyed this very much, not least for the period musak in the backing track! I was a bit surprise by the erotic charge implicit in a lot of the spraying action, mind you, notably in the oriental and woody demos. : – ) And the woman and her daughter were rubbing the stuff all the way up their arms as though it was body lotion, not fragrance.

I also learnt that noses saw….!

    • Olfactoria says:

Yes, perfume and sex were closely linked, even before the first naked model stepped up in a fragrance ad.
That rubbing was interesting, that is how you apparently do it with splash bottles… good to know.

  7. Thanks for sharing the link, Birgit! I had not seen this video 🙂

I remember stumbling across this on YouTube a few years ago. Glad to see it again.

I’m usually not one to say that ‘things were simper (ie better) back in the gold ol’ days’ because of course they weren’t; people just faced a different set of problems. But with perfume, things WERE really simpler back then: far, far fewer perfumes to choose from. Fancy sitting down with an Avon lady with a choice of just two!

Thanks for the blast from the past.

Love a vintage video! This is a classic! Thanks for passing it on, Birgit. 🙂
