Which new perfumes have piqued your interest?
What upcoming releases in 2012 are must-tries for you?
What are you really waiting for?
My Answer:
I really look forward to smell the new By Kilian release Amber Oud. The Queen of Amber has to try every new amber, but one from Kilian is especially anticipated. Also in the amber must try category is the seventh perfume from Atelier Cologne, Ambre Nue. I really like the other six fragrances in the line and the fact that a 30ml size is available. So I have high expectations for Ambre Nue.
The new entry in the L’Art et Matiére line by Guerlain, Myrrhe et Delires is a must try as well, since I really love many others in the line and plan to review them all. (For now there is only a review of Iris Ganache.)
And then there is the upcoming perfume by Louis Vuitton. That should be interesting a the very least.
And then there is a line I’d like to smell but in all probability never will – Agonist. It is all about the bottle as far as I can judge now, since I never had my nose near any of their perfumes and have not read much about them either, but those glass sculptures are amazingly beautiful. And true beauty is something to savor and enjoy, not feel guilty for pursuing. That is something I only recently learned, but plan to keep in mind.
What about you?
I’m with you on the Vuitton, I’m pretty sure that it will be worth sniffing and of course anything that By Kilian does is as well.
I am slightly ashamed to admit that I’m intrigued by both Madonna and Lady Gaga’s celebuscents. Yes, they’ll probably be terrible but seeing as M’s is a white floral and LG’s is called ‘Monster’ they definitely will be worth trying.
Also, Amouage’s annual release will be exciting I’m sure.
Don’t be ashamed! There have been celebuscents that are really good, so maybe those two will be as well. I think I will refrain from smelling Monster though. 😉
Oh yes, another Amouage is always grounds for excitement!
I just have this sneaky feeling that the Madonna one will be great. The Lady Gaga scent certainly won’t live up to the hype.
I wonder what Amouage will have this year, I keep running words that sound like ‘Honour’, ‘Memoir and ‘Lyric’ through my head.
I love the Amouage guessing game – Truth maybe? Or Desire? Or Destiny?
Truth would be a wonderful name!
Amouage Truth – it does have a nice ring to it. Maybe the lovely Mr Chong would like it too… 🙂
I am with you on the By Kilian, having only recently sniffed the line and found many that I love, I will look forward to the release of Amber Oud (two notes that are very hit and miss with me though, so may not be a winner for me)
I am also looking forward to the LV perfume since I have two of their handbags (despite LT saying this was bad trashy)
I know its not a new release (but it is new to me) I am looking forward to sniffing puredistance after 2 amazingly good reviews from both yourself and candy perfume boy, a sample is winging its way to me right now.. 🙂
Oh good, you are sampling Puredistance I, I feel like a missionary for this perfume, lol.
You are indeed, I am hoping that I don’t love it from the price point of view but I very much doubt it, it seems the more exnsive they are, the more I love them. 🙂
Haha, I know the feeling! 😀
Wow, those Agonist bottles are something else.
I’m glad you’ll have two new ambers to try soon. Both will be well done, no doubt but I’ll wait for your verdict. I’m looking forward to all the new releases you mention but particularly the new Guerlain. It will be interesting to compare it with Myrrhiad which I liked a lot from a few sprays.
Let’s hope LV manage to release comething as classy as Bottega Veneta.
I will be getting a sample of Myrrhiad soon, I’m very curious.
The Agonist bottles are a thing of beauty.
I too look forward to the Amber Oud from By Kilian and Atelier Cologne’s Amber Nue. I hope that Amouage will also come out with the next Opus. Will Parfumerie Generale have a limited edition this year? Of course my next trip to Paris will require a trip to the Guerlain store. Too many temptations!
Too many temptations – so true!
I haven’t yet heard about a new PG, but I’m sure it is only a matter of time.
Hmm… tough one.
I must confess that there aren’t many upcoming releases which have got me excited. However, I have been reliably informed that a major perfume house will soon be releasing something which will be an absolute must-buy for lovers of Leather Oud, so that’s got to be high on my list.
I’m also hoping that as we didn’t have anything from Monsieur Malle in 2011, he’ll present us with a gem this year.
Needless to say I’ll also be keeping a close eye on Zurich to see what wonders we get from Andy Tauer and Vero Kern.
And I guess the Madonna perfume will have to be sniffed as well. Personally, I think she shouldn’t release one, but as she’s a self-confessed perfume lover, there’s always the slight chance that Truth Or Dare might be good (awful name, though!).
Very nice predictions, M. Persolaise, thank you!
Malle and Kern have my full attention as well.
Any more concrete hints as to who is releasing this Leather Oud sibling? (Please?) 🙂
I read somewhere that Vero Kern is working on a green scent for this year and that Malle is working with Ropion and Sophia Grojsman for two upcoming releases.
Sophia Grojsman + Malle = AWESOME.
Grojsman + Malle = loud!!! 🙂
I love this sort of speculation 😀
I must admit the name I’ve heard linked to Malle isn’t Grojsman, but of course, she has made a perfume for him already: Outrageous, which apparently is available only in the US.
As for Kern, I have no doubt that whatever she gives us will be very carefully constructed and intriguing… and maybe very different from the first three…?
I’m sure the fourth Kern is totally different, as the first three are so different from each other as well. We’ll see in due time, I guess. 😉
Oh dear, I’m happy to follow (more or less…) the already realeased ones … And therefore I’m very thankful to learn about the planned releases from you.
Wow, wow, wow – that Agonist looks avesome (did you noticed ? they weigh 1kg…). And in fact, the notes sound pretty amazing as well… Anybody ever tried them ? (I’m afraid though their price could be “agonisingly” high…)
I’m not very good a the newspaper aspect of blogging though, only personal interest get reported. 😉
The weight of the Agonist bottles is considerable, even if they were a bargain, shipping alone would break the bank…
Nothing new to add, for I was also going to say Madonna and Lady Gaga, and am not ashamed, hehe!
Just read about Ambre Nue over on Bois de Jasmin, so that got me curious, and I have yet to try Vanille Insensee, though it doesn’t count as an upcoming release, obviously.
I wouldn’t have taken you for a Lady Gaga fan! 😉
I didn’t get the opportunity to read Victorias review yet, but tonight I will!
I am not a fan of the work of either Madonna or Lady Gaga particularly – though it makes good driving music, certainly! – but I do admire their spunk.
I agree!
This Amber Princes will also be trying the upcoming amber releases! I think you can get samples of the Agonist perfumes from Luckyscent. Is the international shipping too expensive? If so, I would be glad to do a CP for you, dear Birgit. Your samples have enriched my life in many ways (story to tell you, maybe a message on FB or email). Great post as always 🙂
I resolved not to spend money on samples, as long as I have so many unsniffed ones, but thank you very much for the offer of a CP, I’ll certainly keep that in mind! So happy to hear the samples are appreciated! xoxo
Compared to most years, there are relatively few new releases I’m aware of wanting to try in advance. That’s not to say there aren’t great new fragrances ahead – I just don’t know them yet!
Two indie perfumers stand out as exceptions: Tauer’s Loretta ( I was very impressed with Miriam, so I look forward to his exploration on the vintage theme ) and another neo-vintage out of Sonoma Scent Studio this month, Nostalgie.
But really, what I’m most looking forward to is sampling the many releases I’ve been a bit cut-off from in Egypt. Sampling niche is very expensive here due to import charges. I’m still eager to try the three new Histoires de Parfums, the new JAR, the Amouages, etc, from this year.
Nostalgie is great, highly recommended! I am very curious about Miriam and Loretta as well.
You are in Egypt? How interesting. I’m sorry it is so hard getting to try niche scents. 😦
Because of some weirdly convoluted laws, it’s easier to export than import anything. I sent a box full of Egyptian perfumes to a friend a while ago, and the perfumes plus shipping cost me less than it did to recieve her gift of samples to me. Go figure!
How unfortunate! 😦
To tell you the truth, with my decision to try to go through many samples that I’ve got before getting any new ones (well, at least paying for new ones), I wish there were as little new releases as possible 😉
My list of acceptions – Amouage, Ormonde Jayne, Puredistance, Sonoma Scent Studio and Tauer Perfumes. So, if any of these release a new perfume I’ll want to try them right away even if I have to pay for those samples. There are several more brands new releases from which I will try to test as soon as possible (By Kilian, Atelier Colognes and Malle) but those should be avilable at stores around so I’ll be able to try them there. I hope 🙂
I totally understand. I could do with a six-month release hiatus. But since the industry won’t take us into consideration, a list of exceptions is a good way to go.
A new Puredistance – now that would be great!!!
Oh, same as yours — I am quite an amber fiend as well. I am also on a lookout for Jo Malone new floral collection. Would like to know what Ineke is doing. DSH is always on my list — in fact I finally caved and got some 2010-2011 samples from her. Ormonde Jayne and Amouage, of course. But I am still sniffing through Amouage older releases and haven’t ordered OJ Discovery set 😉
Looks like several of us are on the same resolve — I also want to try and move out as many samples of the old releases as I possibly can!
Moving out samples is such a hard project, I never thought there would be a time when I had too many, but I fear that time is here.
What you said.
I never thought that either.
There are fates worse than ours, I guess… 😉
Yes, I’m going to have to say Amber Oud, as you know I’m also a Kilian fan! Also, that LV perfume is now on my curiousity radar. If I do love it, it may just be the only LV item I could afford to purchase…for now!
I hope LV won’t be a failure. If they would take a page out of Bottega Veneta’s book, I’d be a happy gal!
I just thought of another one! The Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue from Prada sounds intriguing.
Right! I put that on my to sniff list as well! Thanks for the reminder! 🙂
