Last Week In Perfume Land – Weekend Link Love

I am alone this weekend, my husband has flown to London, the lucky guy. I would rejoice in the fact of a weekend alone, but as we know I am never alone…

The kids and I will go to the zoo, weather permitting.

Last week in Perfumeland the world saw a review of Kate Middleton’s Wedding scent on this very blog, lol.

Dee on Beauty on the Outside wrote a wonderful piece about my most favorite perfume ever, Frapin’s 1697.

We can thank Vanessa from Bonkers about Perfume for another massive lemming, Lalique Flora Bella, impossible to find, but a Duchaufour I want to try, come hell or high water…

Persolaise secured a spectacular guest writer for his blog, natural perfumer par excellence Mandy Aftel writes about the different ways to smell and talk about natural perfumes. Fascinating article.

Victoria on EauMG reviews an interesting jasmine perfume by an indie brand from Seattle.

Tarleisio of Scent Less Sensibilities wrote a fantastic piece about – what else? – perfume and how it is sold as well as received.

Have a wonderful Sunday everybody!

Well, I hope you managed to get to the ZOO on Saturday – looks like on Sunday you have to make them busy indoors…

I wrote about Lalique several years ago, when I was about halfway through a huge bottle of Flora Bella–

It was so easy to find then, as was the beautiful Ellena creation Eau de Lalique. My bottles are long used up, and now they’re impossible to find! So sad, they were two of my favorites. You’d like both, I think!

    • Olfactoria says:

I know your reviews of the Laliques, they only further enticed me. 🙂 I’ll keep my eyes open for them, maybe I get lucky one day…

      • Marla says:

You know, one place I did see all the Laliques at reasonable prices was in the main perfume area of Harrod’s in London- maybe your hubby could find FB there?

    • vanessa says:

Thanks for this link, which was new to me! I know Brian and Abigail have also covered Flora Bella, but my browser closes down every time I go to visit their site, so I cannot ever read it, sadly. Anyway, your post is a handy overview of the Lalique range, including the other one I recently discovered and liked a lot, White. Till now I had previously only been a fan of Perles, having been put off from further exploration of the house by a bad experience with Le Parfum. The cumin-heliotrope accord (hello, who thought those two might be happy bedfellows?!) was just horrible on me.

      • Marla says:

Same here. I applaud the perfumer’s “cajones” for trying out this strange duo, but it didn’t work out so well on me….

And regarding Flora Bella, I know I said the fun with this one is to buy a FB unsniffed, but now the dust has settled on my post and nobody is checking people’s MOs, I would be happy to send you a sample of this so you can check if it lives up to the hype….

    • Olfactoria says:

Thank you for your lovely offer, V, but there is no need anymore, I will get a decant soon. Perfumistas are such a generous people. 🙂

      • vanessa says:

That’s great that you are sorted – an unloved decant of Flora Bella, did you say? Might shrinky help be needed for the owner? (Only kidding!)

See that I remembered to check back this time, instead of letting weeks go by before the penny dropped that I had asked a question here!

        • Olfactoria says:

Very good and quick thinking on your part (the checking back). 😉
I am very curious about Flora Bella now, since the rejecter is someone whose opinion I highly respect, but tastes are different after all… I’ll keep you posted.

  4. Tarleisio says:

B, you are…awesome! Thank you so much for the link, which is appreciated more than you know – since my last one was not technically a review at all. But I am so glad you linked to it, since it’s an issue that doesn’t get too much discussion in the perfumosphere, and I rather think it should occasionally, at least!

I hope you had fun playing Pirates with your boys! In my part of the world…it’s almost time to get in Spider-Man Jr. for bath, bed and beyond…since his mother has a review to write…and I can’t wait to start! 😉

    • Olfactoria says:

T, I hope a few people hop on over to you and read the piece. I love your writing, but I repeat myself here. 😉

The weather got a little better in the afternoon, so a trip to the park to get thoroughly dirty was possible, now they are asleep and the party can begin!! Joking.
Good night to Spider Man Jr and to you, my dear.
