My Favorite Things – Winter Edition

I am always interested in other people’s current reads, or what they like to listen to or what perfume is on the top of their lists at the moment. Well, if I want to be curious about others, I must tell you about my favorite things first.

I hope for yours in the comments 🙂

Book: Deluxe by Dana Thomas, very interesting read, but a bit sad, too. Essentially it is about the fall-down of many “institutions of luxury”.

Perfume: Caron Parfum Sacré EdP, such a great scent for cold weather, review will be up soon!

Music: J.S. Bach Weihnachtsoratorium (Christmas Oratory), I always listen to this at the end of the year, nothing gets me in a festive mood quicker, it just makes me happy (“Jauchzet, frohlocket! after all ;))

Art: Richard Stumm Akt, 2008, we bought a painting from this series, like the one below for our living room, the more I look at it, the more I love it. The combination of colors and the texture of the background is beautiful.

Something Frivolous: Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color in Black Orchid, I saw this on LondonMakeupGirl´s blog and bought it, although a lipstick that dark should theoretically look awful on me, guess what, it doesn´t. I look very good in it, if I may say so myself 😉 Highly recommended, since the lipstick is really good quality (that is reflected in the price, though).

  1. Oh, the TF lipstick. I’ve been coveting the Nude shade! I just posted my Best of 2010 blog at eyeliner on a cat, but I didn’t include fun stuff like books, music or art. Excellent idea! The best book I’ve read recently is by the late Michael Cox, called The Glass of Time. If you’re into Victorian mystery, his are in my opinion, some of the most stunning. It’s a follow-up to The Meaning of Night, so I would recommend reading that one first. I cannot stress enough how absolutely in love I am with these books. Words just won’t suffice.

I liked Deluxe too, eye-opening in parts. Right now re-reading Neruda’s 100 Love Sonnets for the 100th time. Perfume: ELDO Like This. Music: Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – Stereo Love. Art: Homesickness by Magritte. Something Frivolous…hmm, wine? After months of not having any, it feels like a luxury 🙂

  3. I’m working on my best of. It’s so difficult!
Caron and Tom Ford? You have quite a decadent list!
I wonder how many tubes LondonMakeupGirl sold of that shade? Her post made me go out to my Tom Ford counter and buy Black Orchid & the coral shade, LOL.

LOL, Caron is certainly decadent in feel, but astoundingly not in price, it is one of the most affordable lines.
Tom Ford should personally thank Grace London for her work in promoting his lipsticks 😉

I’ve been thinking about this *all* day, to come up with a genuine answer. What are my favorite things right now?

    (excuse the slight tangent)

To be honest, when the first few posts were written about there being too many blogs, the dilution within the community, etc. etc., my response was to keep my head down and keep blogging, because I do it for myself. BUT, even though I didn’t come out onto the playground to defend us little guys, I’m reaping the benefits of others work (and words). It seems like right now, more than ever, the perfume blogging community has really blossomed into what feels more like a family—it’s so much more than just a conversation.

That’s my favorite thing. That I get to be part of the perfume family! 🙂
I now anoint myself the Queen of Cheese.
