Bottle Of The Month – May And A Giveaway

My birthday bottle was Dior La Collection Privée Patchouli Impérial, as the constant reader already knows (the review will be up on Tuesday) but there was a regular monthly bottle as well:

Guerlain Guet-Apens (Attrape Coeur) – beautiful, elegant, very much discontinued.

I found a bottle, I bought it, what can I say…

Before you judge me, take a look at that beauty and take note of the fact that you might be lucky enough to win a sample (2,5ml spray) of this gem.

I also have a mini of Patchouli Impérial to give away.

For a chance to win both, please leave a comment stating which of your favorite fragrances has been discontinued, or what perfume you have only read about, you would love to see back on the shelves.

The Giveaway is open until Thursday May 31, the winner will be announced on Friday June 1. Good luck!

Please be aware that I can’t be responsible for loss or damage in the mail and can’t reimburse you in that case. The giveaway is open to everyone, wherever.

The blue bottle above is the one I wish was not discontinued, I have been looking for some of this for a long time, I did find some on evilbay but it was vastly overpriced, I keep searching though. I also wish they would change their mind on iris ganache being discontinued although it still seems to be readily available over here. I have an almost full bottle that I adore.
Thank you for hosting the draw Birgit, it is very generous of you considering how rare your precious bottle is. 🙂

  2. Alexandra says:

This, this is my favourite discontinued gem as well. Huge (and only a teensy weensy bit jealous, but mostly thrilled for you) congratulations – it is a beautiful buy! Please do include me in the draw.

  3. Laura says:

M7, Vanilia, Eau du Fier, Yohji Homme…. all four sitting on my shelves looking like survivors, or where the fragonerd tries to salvage endangered ‘fumes…

  4. Eva S says:

My favorite discontinued fragrance right now is Plus Que Jamais, but there I only have myself to blame, since I tried it after the fact!
I own some bottles that I’ve read are discontinued but still are easily available here in Sweden, like Fleur du Male, Cuir de Lancome and my FB buy yesterday Donna Karan Gold. Gold is really pretty and the bottle is adorable, I almost regret buying the 30 ml bottle, maybe I should have bought a bigger one, just in case…

  5. WOW! Great giveaway. Congratulations on your awesome purchases.
My 2 favourite long lost scents are Byzance EdP by Rochas and Trouble EdP and Parfum by Boucheron.
I know, not cool but I love them. I have hoarded both.
    Portia xx

  6. Nita says:

As a matter of fact, Guerlain Guet-Apens is the fragrance I’d most like to try- I have read so much about it, and it sounds gorgeous! Please include me in your draw, and thank you for being so generous!

  7. Emma says:

How exciting! A belated happy birthday to you, and congrats on your find! I’d love to be able to try Parure and Shocking, but as for a perfume to revive I think perhaps Vacances by Patou could still be viable in the modern world? X

  8. thegoddessrena says:

Aoud Oeillet D’Indes from Montale. I sampled it, loved it but was unemployed at the time and by the time I had funds it was gone. So sad

  9. cheesegan says:

Happy birthday. A favorite perfume of mine that has been discontinued is Bulgari Omnia, but I am prepared and own 6 backup bottles. A perfume i have only read about but I’m sure I would love is Givenchy III and Coty Chypre. I wish Laura Ashley would bring back all her original scents, especially L’eau.

  10. Roberto says:

I read and read about the mythical Djedi by Guerlain and I wish I see that one back, who knows… I never tried Guet Apens and would love to.Thanks for the draw.

  11. Civava says:

Byzance by Rochas, Safari also isn’t produced anymore 😦 and most of vintage Guerlains like Apres l’Ondee and vintage Diorissimo. I somehow repeat myself.

  12. ana says:

Oh, B what a brilliant timing you have! Victoria from Bois de Jasmin managed to induce a pretty strong lemming for Attrape Coeur just a few minutes ago, and there you are, Guet -Apens it’s the bottle of the month for you, and with your usual generosity you’re offering a sample to a lucky winner. I hope I’ll be the one to get it!So far my favourite discontinued fragrances are DKNY Gold which is stunningly pretty and Theo Fennell Scent. They were both blind buys and they proved to be great.

  13. Figuier says:

Oh, that’s a fantastic bottle of the month!! Definitely the one I’m most jealous of. Here’s another vote for Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur/Vol de Nuit Evasion as the most regretted discontinuation. I have other ‘no longer available’ regrets, but they’re mostly reformulations not discontinuations. This is one of my top-five favourites, so please do put me in your extremely generous draw 🙂

  14. I agree with Civava about the vintage Diorissimo. I wore it 40 years ago, and still remember it.

  15. Elizabeth Watson says:

    I miss Givenchy III.

  16. Caro says:

Oh, I have heard interesting things about Guet Apens!
My complaint has more to do with sad reformulations than with discontinued products (the beautiful chypres of yore, L’Heure Bleue parfum)
I lament the discontinuation of Fendi Theorema and Apres L’ondee parfum (I have never tried the latter, though)

  17. Tara says:

You did absolutely the right thing picking up the Guet Apens. Gorgeous stuff.

  18. cj says:

I picked up a vintage mini of Courreges Empreinte a couple of months ago, and fell in love with it. It is a gorgeous warm golden leathery chypre. It just radiates sunny warmth. Of course, it was long ago discontinued, and the few bottles on ebay were $$$$. I really want to wear it all summer, and my mini is not going to last, so I splurged on an ebay bottle (hopefully the shipping gods will bring it to me safely from the Netherlands). And mere days after making this purchase, I discovered that Courreges has re-launched the fragrance! During the exact week that I splurged on the vintage. huh. Of course, they will only ship within Europe, so it’s still not very accessible, but a friend of mine will be in Paris in July, so I might have her pick up a bottle for me. It would be interesting to compare the new with the vintage. And hopefully the new version is not too different from the original.

  19. susan says:

Oh gosh! Guet-Apens is something I’ve always wanted to try – one of those I’ve read quite a bit about. Another I’ve read about and would love to try is Andy Tauer’s limited edition perfume Orris.

One perfume that I know I love that is discontinued is Donna Karan Gold. Luckily, you can still find that one at the discounters.

  20. Rene Groyer says:

I miss Deneauve, which I smelt once many years ago and never bought it as it was above my budget, (deep regrets )and Chanel Christalle. My other love was Alliage by Lauder.
Thanks for the great giveaway competitions Birgit.

    • Nina says:

You can still get the Cristalle and the Alliage. The Cristalle is truest, I believe, as the edt. I think they also now have an edp. Lauder still has Alliage.

  21. Marie in Denmark says:

I’d love to see Givenchy III, Gucci III and Miller Harris Fleur de Bois back on the shelves. The first two I haven’t smelled in years, but I loved them years ago. The last one was discontinued recently. I have half a bottle but am considering stocking up while it’s still out there. I love it a lot.

  22. Anna in Edinburgh says:

My wish is to somehow get a beautiful bottle of agnes b’s “l’eau rose”. Had I known that it was going to be discontinued, I would certainly have bought more.

We have just hit a spell of hot, bright weather in which “l’eau rose” is simply perfect. Such is life:-)

  23. Lyng says:

    Happy birthday!

Nombre Noir and Guet-Apens are two discontinued perfumes I’d love to smell. I’m aware that the usual suspects can provide you with samples but you risk falling unhappily in love with the stuff. To smell or not to smell …

The discontinued original version of Feminité du Bois has been my favourite perfume ever since smelling it twenty years ago. I try (hard) to make my bottle last.

  24. Safran says:

I couldn’t name one particular scent, I miss the gorgeous Scent Systems Extraits, of which I love Oeillet the most, followed by the Rose. And Gobin Daudes scents, particularly Biche dans l’Absinthe and Nuit au Desert.
I still have left some of each, but thinking of being without them, is terrible.
Also, although it was quite bold, I do miss the original Fendi per donna, it was such a female powerhouse!

    Cheers
    Safran

  25. Lady Jane Grey says:

There was a rumour for ages that Dzing! is going to be discontinued – no problem though, in the meantime I have a 100ml bottle of it 🙂
But there is another one I haven’t managed to stock up, Andrea mentioned it already : Iris Ganache…

  26. Himari says:

I’ll be obvious and say Guerlain Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur as a regretted discontinuation – came across it once, it was very lovely! Now it’s very gone. This draw is a must-enter for me. Beautiful bottle btw.

  27. Kaia says:

Mona di Orio’s earlier creations..but I heard today that they are bringing them back at some point!

    Happy belated birthday!!

  28. annemariec says:

Deneuve, by Catherine Deneuve. I have two minis, each with a couple of mls of parfum. When they are gone, they are gone!

  29. Nina says:

I miss Donna Karan’s Chaos. Most desperately. Admittedly, I don’t know if the re-release is like the original. Have always wanted to try Guet-Apens, as Guerlain is my favorite house of all! I also miss all if Aveda’s original Pure-Fumes and Chakras, sadly discontinued when Aveda became part of Lauder’s empire and all of their integrity was lost. Iyatiku, Isesi, Hana – you’ll always be mourned!

  30. TaffyJ says:

Like some of the comments above, Denueve is my pick for one of my favorite Discontinued, but Not Forgotten.

Happy belated birthday to you! You did good!

  31. I would have said Frapin 1697, however, I’m not sure if I dreampt it or if I actually read that it is going to be continued so my seconder is Cartier le baisier du Dragon.

  32. Amy says:

I mourn the discontinuation of the original Donna Karan signature scent. I know they have re-released them and they are available at Bergdorf Goodmans. I purchased a new bottle and compared the new one with the old (Still have some juice left in that odd duck-like bottle) and I found the newer version seemed to be heavier on the sweet and lighter on the leather and spice.

Nina, I bought the re-release of Chaos and it exceeded my expectations, but I never had the chance to wear the old Chaos. I’d be happy to decant some for you. I can be reached at amymaloney1 at mac dot com.

    Thanks for the draw, Birgit!

  33. Olivia B. says:

Great opportunity, thank you! I’d love to try Guet Apens, it would be the bottle I’d love to see back on shelves too.

  34. Undina says:

There is something in that dark blue/navy bottle and box color that really speaks to me! I should be careful: I just can’t fall for all blue bottles, especially limited editions and discontinued gems. 😉

Tea for Two is one of my favorite but sadly discontinued perfumes.

  35. Julie says:

Hopping on the Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur/Vol de Nuit Evasion bandwagon as favorite discontinued, followed by Cuir de Lancome, YSL Nu & M7. Hope your birthday was lovely and thank you for the draw.

  36. Happy belated birthday! My favorite discontinued perfumes are Donna Karan Gold and Cuir de Lancome. The list goes on and on of course (Gucci Envy, L’Arte di Gucci, Theorema …)

  37. Olfactoria says:

I’m sorry, but this weekend I can’t seem to find the time to answer each comment! Between my husband barbecuing his little heart out, entertaining the firemen who have been alerted by the neighbors, and keeping my agitated boys in check, I have my work cut out.
Thanks for all your answers, good luck in the draw for all of you!
    xoxo
(Just joking about the fire brigade, we managed to control the flames ourselves. 😉 )

  38. Actually, it is Guerlain Guet-Apens (Attrape Coeur). Oh the agony.

  39. Brooke says:

I truly miss Fendi’s Theorema. I have always wanted to try Fath’s Iris Gris in it’s original form. Thanks for the draw.

  40. Emma says:

It was so nice to meet you in London…thank you for your speech about Amber and your humour.
A perfume from Guerlain I fell in love with was Aroma Allegoria Exaltant. iT has been discontinued indeed… I wish I could have it on my shelves again and on my skin!
    Happy BBQ 🙂

  41. Kimberly says:

Guerlain Heritage in the edp. My husband loves that stuff, and the edt just isn’t the same. No need to enter me in the draw, just wanted to say that I would have been more likely to have judged you if you hadn’t bought it!;)

  42. womo531 says:

Happy belated Birthday indeed =) The first fragrance that came to me was Guerlain Apres L’Ondee…

  43. anatu13 says:

Vintage Guerlain Diorissimo sounds wonderful–it would be great to have it back on the shelves! Thank you for the draw!

  44. Jamie Brigham says:

My Victoria’s Secret Forever body spray has been discontinued without me even knowing it. I would love for that to come back on the shelves. I guess for now amazon and ebay here I come

  45. Lydia says:

I’ve heard really great things about Bvlgari Omnia, but have yet to try it. Hope I’ll be able to nab a bottle for cheap before they’re all gone!

  46. Lulu says:

Guet Apens should return! There are some other perfumes I can’t even remember the name) Why they discount perfumes???

  47. Ela says:

Oh, so many fragrances I loved are discontinued! Theorema, Escada Collection, just to name the few. Black Cashmere is back, but it seems tweaked. Thank you for the generous draw!

  48. Jules says:

Happy B B’ :o) ~ Lovely find ! Such a luscious deep indigo blue, and I luv the simple attractive shape. … Thanx for this lovely giveaway ! ~ I’ve been dying to sniff GA but somehow it’s always missed me by. And, well, patchouli is my first luv 😉 So …..
One frag I had one tiny bottle of many, many moons once ago, (& can now just about hardly remember wot it smelled like), but would still absolutely luv to see reinstated is Christos Man by Christopher Chronos. Just the amazing delicious purple bottle alone is totally “must-have” for me. It’s so kitschy-crazy-gorgeous. ~ (Tho’ knowing how you feel about Mugler’s frags/bottle designs, not so sure you’d actually appreciate it much ?? Bound to be your eyesore-nemesis … (LOL) 😉
See bottle pics & info here : http://sorceryofscent.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/christos-man-christos-woman-by.html
Another I’m totally intrigued by is Le Feu d’Issey. Still need to hunt me a sample of that one. Have been wanting to split a bottle for ages – but yet to get around to it.

    • Olfactoria says:

      Hi Jules,
you are right, the bottle of Christos is not really my thing. 😉

Le Feu d’Issey though is great! I wore it in the ninties and was lucky enough to find a bottle last year. It is a very unique perfume indeed.

      Good luck in the giveaway!

      • Jules says:

Yeah, I thought not 🙂 … I just find it totally absurd. I mean a cross-bottle ? Nutz ! (Though, quite frankly, I prefer to see it as an 80’s large chess-piece instead, rather than just cheap “Christianalia”.) ~ It’s surprisingly comfortable to hold and spray, contrary to what one might expect. Plus you could pretty much hurl it as a weapon in need, for it weighs a ton (LOL) ~ (For me the colour is the best part tho’) …
But I just knew you were gonna hate it. 🙂

        • Jules says:

Oh … glad to hear you do like Le Feu tho’. That makes me think I will probably too then. Must hunt one down.

  49. Maureen says:

Youa re so lucky to have found that bottle. Thank you for the giveaway.

  50. Fernando says:

One of the discontinued ones I would love to have is exactly Guet-Apens. I wish I could find a bottle!

There aren’t a lot of others, mostly because I’ve been in this game only for a little while, and never smelled some of the older ones. Not having smelled them, I am saved from wanting them, I guess. Reading the blogs does put names in my head, of course, from Iris Gris to Yohji Homme. But I’ll pretend I wouldn’t have liked them. Safer that way.

  51. de Pindray says:

Being a real Guerlain lover, I have the chance to go to the Osmothèque for lectures, but I could not smell this marvel before it desappered from the Guerlain shelves. I have been looking for a bottle of this one or of Vol de Nuit Evasion, but without success.

I really wish I could have a sample. By the way my birthday is on the ninth of June!
I also dream I could smell Parure, another “late” marvel.

Reading you almost every day I really enjoy your blog.
    Catherine

  52. Elizabeth Watson says:

Was Guet-Apens also called Damaersk? (I’m not sure I spelled that correctly.) Was it ever presented in a blue or gold bottle in the shape of a bow? Thanks.

    • Jules says:

I think you mean Dawamesk, no !? …. But no, as far as I know these were NOT the same frags. … Guet-Apens tho’ was/is the same fragrance as Attrape Coeur.

  53. Heather! says:

Many years ago somebody gave me a gift of an Avon fragrance called ‘Holiday Kisses’. I think because it was Avon I didn’t give it a fair smell at the time, and I thanked her politely but thought to myself that I probably wouldn’t wear it. I was so wrong! Not only did I find that I LOVED it, everybody else seemed to love it, too! I have never had so many compliments on my perfume as when I wore that. Alas, by the time I had reached the end of the bottle, it was already discontinued (WHY?!?!). I find a bottle every so often on eBay and I *try* to keep at least one bottle of it around, only wearing it on special occasions. But it is a unique and lovely scent….

Thanks…I love patchouli-based scents, as well!

Venezia by Laura Biagotti. Was so perfect…!
