Corrupted Floral Anyone? – Penhaligon’s Amaranthine Full Bottle Giveaway!

I’m in London this week and therefore regular blogging service will be a bit slower until I get back (with a full report of course).

In the meantime, to make things a little more entertaining, take a look at this generous giveaway…

Penhaligon’s has offered one lucky Olfactoria’s Travels reader the chance to win a full 50ml bottle of my beloved Amaranthine.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me why you would be the ideal Amaranthine wearer, why you love it, why you should win it!

If you share the link to this post on Facebook, Twitter or any other social media platform of your choice, this earns you a second chance to win. Please let me know in your comment how and where you have shared this giveaway.

The giveaway is open until Wednesday 23 midnight and I will post the winner, selected by random.org on Thursday 24.

The prize will be shipped directly from Penhaligon’s in London, readers from all over the world can enter. Please note that I can not be responsible for anything to do with the shipping of the bottle, I host the giveaway and give the winner’s address to Penhaligon’s (who keeps it private, as do I), then it is out of my hands.

Good luck to you! And many thanks to Penhaligon’s for this lovely and generous idea!

  1. I’ve never smelt it Birgit. I did Tweet you though. I will FB tomorrow.

  2. czahltine says:

I’m moving to study in Germany in a couple of months, and I’d love to take another bottle of this with me. It’s my first “hello, young lady” perfume, and I’ve gotten pretty sentimental about it. Going to keep my fingers crossed and let the random.org fates decide!

  3. DRTVrMoi says:

My perfume love affair began with Bertrand Duchaufour and it’s been a passion that I share with my mate. Years ago, I purchase Acqua di Parma Cipresso di Toscana for him on a trip to Calabria. Frapin 1697 will always remind me of my first visit to Paris with my husband. I’ve gifted him Sartorial, but in truth, I wear it in winter as a comfort, a manly caress. Amaranthine is bright, yet a warm, personal scent. It speaks of a floral with the fresh earth still lingering in the air. I’d love to add it to my Duchaufour collection. Another Bertrand memory in the making….

  4. DRTVrMoi says:

I shared a linked to the giveaway on FB

  5. Ariane says:

My decant of it is nearly drained, every time I wear it,it whispers to me not to take everything so seriously and be more playful!

  6. Rene Groyer says:

This is a fragrance I have never heard about ,let alone tried..Sounds wonderful and I would love to try it.I will share the competition on Facebook

  7. Undina says:

I’m not sure I will be an ideal Amaranthine wearer but I have a good reason why I think I should win!
For months last year I kept reading everybody’s praises for this perfume (including yours!). And after each great review I kept testing it in hope I’d get what others were getting from it. It didn’t work but I was insistent. By the sixth time I liked it but my sample was done. The last note in my database for Amaranthine says: “Won’t turn down a free bottle … but not on my “to buy” list. Yet.” So, you can see now, right? 🙂

FB – check; Twitter – check.

  8. andreawilko says:

I would love to win this bottle as I still need to come to grips with it, I have tried it on a few occasions and have liked it a lot but I think that with persistence it would turn into a love for me especially in the warmer weather (should we ever get any that is) 🙂

  9. Laurinha says:

I feel that Amaranthine and I belong together: it could just be the right fragrance to convert me to this fragrance family I admire, the Florals, but which my skin usually scorns… So yes, Amaranthine and my skin need each other: I already know its spicy notes will be right at home and, well, I can’t wait to smell its floral notesin full bloom! Cue fingers crossed at random.com…^_^

P.S.: I’ve shared this post on Facebook and Twitter.

  10. Sigrun says:

WordPress ate my last comment, so if I turn up twice, at least it wasn’t my original intention to cheat 😉 I’d love to try Amaranthine as florals seem to be my current “thing”. And I’ve only tried one scent from Penhaligon before, “Gardenia”, which I absolutely loved!
I’ve retweeted you as well 🙂

  11. ana says:

Hello, B! What an exciting competition! Thank you and Penhaligons.I don’t know if I’m the ideal Amaranthine wearer, Octavian from 1000 fragrances blog makes it sound like one of the sexiest perfumes on earth.By no means my skinny phisique could raise itself to inducing that type of smouldering sensations. Anyways I tried Amaranthine only briefly in London at the beginning of my perfumista days, and to be honest I couldn’t understand what the fuss was all about. But I feel I need to revisit.Unfortunately Amaranthine is not part of the range that Penhaligons have in Dublin. So I’m hoping I might win a bottle here. Who knows a great perfume love might be just around the corner. I will share on Facebook as soon as I figure out how to do that. I don’t Twitter.

  12. Safran says:

Hello, it’s a bit OT and I hope, it doesn’t sound stupid. But if you haven’t smelled it yet and get the chance to try Caron Accord 119 (at Les Senteurs or Harrods), I’d love to hear your opinion!
I like this scent a lot (still haven’t got it though) and hardly ever read anything about it.
Have a great time in London!

    Cheers
    Safran

    • Olfactoria says:

Your comment made me dig out my sample of the EdP, I hadn’t had a chance to try it yet. For now I can’t say much more than it is pleasant to wear, we’ll see if or how we get along… 🙂

  13. anatu13 says:

I love white florals and spicy florals–this sounds ideal for me! I have not tried Penhaligon’s yet, so this sounds like the perfect first one for me. If I won, it would be only my third full bottle–I need to build up my collection!
I have posted this on my Facebook page.
    Thank you for the draw!

  14. arline says:

I would love to win this perfume, because I am working on my collection, and while I have not smelled this, I trust your review, and it sounds awesome!!!!!!!!! I have the WANTS and I would really really appreciate a victory here.

After reading all the comments so far, I really need this fragrance from what Araine says, “every time I wear it, it whispers to me, not to take everything so seriously, and be more playful.” <That is a sentiment that I often need reminding of!!!!!!

  15. sujaan212 says:

I have not been lucky enough yet to try Amaranthine but I do love and admire all things Duchaufour. I’ve read as many reviews as I could find about Amaranthine and even after seeing the list of notes and the descriptions, I still don’t think I can actually tell what it will be like! What I do love is that it sounds like a sexy spicy floral oriental with a creamy inviting dry down. Now all that sounds like perfection to me! And I think my English husband, who is not the typical uptight Englishman, will love it too. From a middle eastern spicy heart to an English toffee finish…yum yum yum! I love that no one expected this of Penhaligon’s, it’s great to see a company surprise the perfume community.

  16. I love this scent beyond reason. I am the ideal Amaranthine wearer because I NEVER call it “Amaranthigh”. 😀

  17. Fernando says:

My wife is the ideal wearer of Amaranthine, because she loves jasmine and white flowers and she’s still sexy at sixty.

  18. Dionne says:

Don’t enter me in the draw, Birgit. Amaranthine just doesn’t like me. It’s that typical “goes sour” thing that happens with so many florals. But holy cow, you should smell it on my Evil Scent Twin. Gorgeous. I gifted her with my little 5ml decant, which made her squee with pleasure.

    Good luck everybody.

    • Olfactoria says:

Why don’t I enter you for your evil scent twin then, I bet she’ll squee even louder if you present her with a bottle. 🙂

      • Dionne says:

Birgit, what a lovely idea! I considered it myself, but wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate. My EST is such a great friend, I’d be delighted to do something like that for her.

  19. furriner says:

Amaranthine is just beautiful and is maybe my favorite of Penhaligon’s line. I will share this on Twitter.

  20. rnocean says:

The Penhaligon line was my initial love when I began my fragrance journey! I would love to be able to own Amaranthine!

  21. I’ve wanted to try this for years! I’ve still never tried anything from this line. It would be perfect for me because I love white flowers, creamy notes, gourmand touches and hints of skank!

  22. OperaFan says:

Corrupted? No – Never! Amaranthine stays well-behaved on me and the CEO never complains.
As to why I should win? My response: Why Not? [Besides, I think it’s a beauty.]
    a;)

  23. Civava says:

Just by reading your review I think I at least must try this, but if I win this it would be gorgeous. If you say it gives you shivers down the spine and all other very nice verbs you used…there is no other possibility there.

I’ll share at Tweeter and FB.

  24. Katya says:

I would dearly love to win it! I bought it last year blindly after all the glorious reviews and being a huge fan of Duchaufour and really loved it but my mum loved it even more- so I gave her my bottle and have really missed it!I can really pick banana leaf note which is very similar to my nose to the note used in PG Fellanila, thanks for this draw and enjoy your London trip!

  25. cheesegan says:

This sounds like a unusual, one of a kind scent and that’s the kind of perfume I like to wear. I shared your post with FACEBOOK FRAGRANCE FRIENDS.

  26. Asali says:

What a generous give-away. I haven’t tried Amaranthine yet, but reading your (old) review, I can’t for the life of me think why I haven’t. A lush floral which dries down into milky sandalwood, yay, count me in, it sounds gorgeous. I don’t really do nice florals, so I’m quite certain this corrupted little thing will purr on my skin like a kitten.
Thanks a lot Birgit and Penhaligons for the opportunity

  27. susan says:

I would love to try it.. I have never worn it, but I’m a great fan of complex floral perfumes. I tweeted the post (@breathesgelatin).

  28. Bea Biro says:

I’m pretty sure Coleridge anticipated Amaranthine in his poem Kubla Khan referring to it as milk of Paradise 🙂 drinking is done by the skin of course 🙂

‘And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.’

  29. dremybluz says:

I love spicy florals and would love to add this to my collection. I also left a message on facebook

  30. Heather says:

I’ve read such wonderful things about this and have been lemming a sample for awhile-a bottle would be amazing! And I study Victorian literature, so anything Penhaligon’s seems fitting for me to wear, professionally speaking 🙂

  31. Bellatrix says:

Ideal wearer would be me! 😀
    Love this scent. 🙂
It was first scent that I wanted to have after long long period of not having anything on my want list.

  32. Maureen says:

I would love to win this scent…you make it sound lovely. The only Penhalion’s I have ever tried were Fern & Bluebell. Both are nice, but a tad masculine..this sounds more feminine, just like me!

  33. princesagr says:

I have never tried it but the bottle seems so romantic and chic, would fit great with me 🙂

  34. Julie says:

I have never smelled Amaranthine and probably never will, but it certainly sounds intriguing.

  35. deeHowe says:

Ooh! I have a sample of this deliciously decadent floral— would be delighted to own a whole bottle of it! 🙂

  36. Ariane says:

Forgot to mention that I shared this on facebook,it ended up on my daughter’s page, didn’t realize she was logged in,but still, hers is much more active and reaching people than mine!

  37. Nancy H. says:

Yes, please enter me in the drawing. My life needs a little corruption right now!

  38. Tatiana says:

I’m not one to enjoy pretty, light, lovely florals. But throw in tea, woods, clove and other spices and I’m right there, loving the scent. The darker, spicier and more off beat the scent the more I love it! Would love to be entered into the draw.

Hope you have a lovely stay in London this week.

  39. Amy Bella says:

Monsieur Duchafour is my favorite perfumer! When Amaranthine came out I tried it and was fascinated, but white flowers were just not my thing. I wasn’t entirely comfortable in it. In the last year, my appreciation for the flowers has grown. (I am crazy about Mona di Orio Tuberose- You’re review was spot-on!)

My ‘scent memory’ of Amaranthine is creating an intense craving for it – I simply must experience it again! Thank you for the opportunity… Good luck everyone!

  40. Natalie says:

OOOH, yes please! I have (yet) never tried anything from Penhaligon’s, but two of my favourite perfumes are created by him (Traversée du Bosphore and Bling). Several others I REALLY like. And wouldn’t it be lovely that come midnight on my birthday, I would win something which by your description only almost makes me want to do a blind buy?

  41. Sandi L says:

I have a small decant that is down to the last difficult spritz..I love this one and it lifts me up! Right now going through some tougher than normal times and would no doubt give me the lift I need right now:)

  42. Sandi L says:

Forgot to mention shared on twitter 😉

  43. Marie in Denmark says:

Because I’ve always loved florals above all other genres of perfume and because I’m old enough to carry my corruption with dignity and pride 😉

  44. Eva S says:

I’ve heard so much about Amaranthine, I would love to try this! I need a “third date scent”, the ones I already own are mostly quite sedate 🙂
BTW Bea Biro, I love the Kublai Khan quote!

  45. I tried this thanks to the lovely dee who sent me a sample and I really liked it..I get lilies/white flowers with that something more. Would love to win a bottle..:)

  46. unseencenser says:

Oo oo! I would love to win a bottle because I like it fine as a dab from a sample vial, but I suspect I would see what causes others such swooning love if I could apply with abandon. 🙂 Lovely giveaway!

  47. Thalia says:

Discovering Safran Troublant was akin to landing on a new planet, foreign and utterly enrapturing. I had always been a floral girl. Penhaligon’s Night Scented Stock was my first great perfume love, followed swiftly by Bluebell and Violetta. I didn’t know my beloved flower power perfumers could do the warm, spiced, comforting blend they achieved with Amaranthine until getting my nose in some around Valentine’s Day.

I promised to take a brave step abandoning my ladylike florals for Amaranthine in late summer, the season of exotic vacations and food scents escaping from wide-open windows with hot ovens inside, then along comes this lil draw…

  48. Heather! says:

I have never smelled Amaranthine (in fact, I don’t think I have ever heard of it!), but I loveloveLOVE perfumes! They are my favourite things to get as gifts, so winning one would be amazing. Thank you so much for this chance!

  49. Heather! says:

I tweeted about this wonderful giveaway, too!

    Thanks!

  50. cj says:

From your review, Amaranthine sounds absolutely sublime. I’m just warming up to wearing florals, and I think a little “corruption” is what really makes them work for me. And, of course, I implicitly trust the taste of a fellow Cuir de Lancome addict!

  51. Holly F. says:

A corrupted floral sounds just perfect for me. Amaranthine and I are a match made in heaven! It has all of the notes to make it intoxicating and just a little bit dirty, and has been on my wishlist forever. Hopefully we will make each other very happy. I will tweet and fb this now, as well! 🙂

  52. Ela says:

Lovely giveway, thank you! Oh, I am just loving Amaranthine (and I would still love to get that beautiful crystal perfume extract bottle someday) as it reminds me of lush, warm summer. But most of all, this year I am going for long exotic holidays- think it could be me great travel companion!

  53. fleurdelys says:

I’ll throw my hat in the ring! Although I’ve never tried Amaranthine, I do like Penhaligon’s Bluebell, a fragrance that is more complex than one might imagine. I’d hope that Amaranthine turns out to have that same characteristic! Thanks for the drawing.

  54. Eric Love says:

My decant is nearly gone, I would love to try for a bottle!

  55. Lulu says:

Hi , I would love to enter the draw! I tried this perfume last year and have been wanting it ever since:) Such an interesting fragrance! Have a great day:)

  56. Catherine says:

Hello! Thank you (and the folks at Penhaligon’s too) for hosting such a lovely draw. I haven’t smelled Amaranthine, but it sounds positively delicious! I do actually love white flowers, but I’m not much of one for the light, pretty ones or the ripe, voluptuous ones (funny, seeing as those are the two main categories haha), but I love the spiced, sweetened, woody ones. My favorite is actually Sonoma Scent Studio’s Jour Ensoleille which is amazingly rich and actually does remind me very much of sweetened condensed milk or Serge Luten’s Jeux de Peau at turns. Amaranthine sounds like it would be Jour Ensoleille’s older, smoother, more laid-back cousin with the bigger sandalwood presence and freesia and without the oakmoss and patchouli. I am absolutely intrigued by your description of it as languid – in my scent imagination, I think I can almost feel how it must compare, and if I’m close, then it might just be exactly the white floral I’ve been searching for. 🙂

I also think that the name is beautifully romantic, from the Greek meaning “unfading.” 🙂

Tweeted the giveaway as strawbeemochi. 🙂

    • Olfactoria says:

      Hi Catherine,
Your comparison to Jour Ensoleille is a good one, although they are definitely different enough to justify both.
      Good luck in the draw!

  57. Chloe says:

Your descriptions of all scents make me sad that there isn’t anywhere I can get a whiff of these exquisite scents you rave about. Instead, I do more research and see how everyone else describes the scents. Now is Amaranthine the perfect scent for me? I don’t know, but I’d sure as heck love to try it. Thanks for this giveaway! I’ve also tweeted about it.
